Apple has not announced its next entry-level iPad. The latest cited report points to an A19 chip, 8GB of RAM, Apple’s N1 networking chip and a C1X modem on cellular models, while earlier reporting was divided between A18 and A19. Those details remain rumors. The best current release forecast is the first quarter of 2027 at the earliest, not a confirmed launch date.

What is the next entry-level iPad?

It is the unannounced successor to Apple’s current entry-level iPad, commonly described in reporting as the 12th-generation iPad. There is no Apple announcement or finalized specification sheet in the cited material, so it is not yet a product you can buy. The latest details come from a September 25, 2026, MacRumors report describing information reportedly found in Apple code: an A19 chip, 8GB of RAM, N1 networking and a C1X modem for cellular models. MacRumors

Which chip is expected: A19 or A18?

A19 is the stronger current rumor, but it is not confirmed. In its September 9 roundup, Macworld described conflicting clues: Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had reported an A18, while internal model identifiers J581 and J582 were linked to an A19. The later MacRumors report shifts the balance toward A19 by attributing that chip to Apple-code findings. Neither report is an Apple announcement. Macworld

Reports have associated the expected chip and 8GB of memory with possible Apple Intelligence support. That is not a promise of feature eligibility or performance for an unreleased iPad. Apple’s current comparison page lists Apple Intelligence on iPad mini and iPad Air and Pro models, but not on the current A16 entry-level iPad. Apple’s iPad comparison

What other specifications are rumored?

Memory and cellular connectivity

The September 25 MacRumors report says the device may have 8GB of RAM. It also names a C1X modem for cellular versions, so that modem should not be assumed to appear in Wi-Fi-only configurations. Apple has confirmed neither detail.

Wireless networking

The reports mention Apple’s N1 networking chip and possible support for newer wireless standards, including Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Whether N1 will be included—and which standards the final product will support—remains unsettled. Treat these as possibilities, not purchase-ready specifications.

Design and display

Current reporting expects a familiar entry-level iPad design and an LCD display rather than a major exterior redesign. No specific screen configuration, color, camera setup or other hardware detail is confirmed for the successor.

When might it arrive?

A July 16, 2026, MacRumors report relaying Mark Gurman’s forecast placed the iPad in the first quarter of 2027 at the earliest. That is a reporting-based window, not an Apple schedule, and it supersedes earlier expectations pointing to a 2026 launch. Apple has not given a release date. MacRumors

  • Wait for an announcement if a newer chip is the main reason you are considering a purchase and you can tolerate an uncertain date, price and feature set.
