A Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court judge found an 11-year-old girl, identified in local coverage as M.H., delinquent after a bench trial over the reported September 2025 assault of a 5-year-old girl in Cleveland. The finding is a juvenile-court adjudication, not an adult criminal conviction. M.H.’s disposition hearing was scheduled for November 18, 2026; reports available as of October 3 do not establish what the court ultimately ordered.
What the judge decided
The bench trial began September 28 and concluded September 30, 2026. Judge Kristin Sweeney found M.H. delinquent. News 5 described the court’s finding as based on proof beyond a reasonable doubt and quoted the judge as saying: “Each of these facts demonstrate and persuade the court, by evidence beyond a reasonable doubt, that the purpose of M.H.’s actions was an attempt to cause death.” This is the judge’s statement as attributed in News 5’s report, not a quotation independently verified against a written ruling or transcript. News 5’s report explains that a delinquency finding is the juvenile-court equivalent of a guilty verdict in adult court, but the case remains a juvenile proceeding.
What happened and when
The case concerns an incident on September 13, 2025, in Cleveland. Local reports place it near East 148th Street and St. Clair Avenue. News 5, citing a police report, said three juveniles took the 5-year-old to a wooded area in the 1000 block of East 148th Street. The reports describe a serious assault; further graphic detail is not needed to understand the court outcome.
- October 15, 2025: The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office announced charges against the girl, then 10, and a 9-year-old boy.
- April 1, 2026: WOIO reported that Judge Kristin Sweeney ordered competency restoration before the children could stand trial. The court’s diagnostics clinic provided services during detention after a placement change was needed for assessment.
- September 28–30, 2026: M.H.’s bench trial took place, ending with the delinquency finding.
See WOIO’s April report and News 5’s account of the trial for their reporting on the proceedings.

How the initial charges differ from the finding
Prosecutors initially announced nine counts across five charge types against the two children: one count of attempted murder, four counts of rape, two counts of felonious assault, one count of kidnapping and one count of strangulation. Those are the charges announced at the start of the case; they should not be read as a count-by-count description of what the judge later found against M.H.
Coverage differs in how it summarizes the adjudication: WOIO describes nine charges, while News 5 says “all charges” and lists categories without a count-by-count breakdown. The reports do not provide a court record that maps the original counts to the adjudicated counts, so the precise breakdown of the finding should not be inferred from the initial charging announcement.

The other child’s case is separate
News reports say the second child, then 10, admitted attempted rape and felonious assault on September 28 and testified in M.H.’s trial. That admission is a separate procedural outcome; it is not part of M.H.’s delinquency finding. Each child’s case has its own disposition hearing.
What happens next
After the finding, WOIO reported that the judge ordered a sex-offender evaluation and continued M.H.’s detention pending disposition. News 5 reported that her disposition hearing was scheduled for November 18, 2026, with the other child’s separate hearing scheduled for November 20. A delinquency finding is the adjudication stage; the disposition hearing is where the court addresses the order to follow. As of October 3, 2026, the reporting does not establish the eventual disposition.

Why public details are limited
Juvenile confidentiality limits what can be reported about the children and proceedings. Local coverage identifies the girl as M.H.; this article does not name either child. The victim’s mother has spoken publicly about the impact of the attack, but a family member’s account of its effects is distinct from a court finding. The available reports establish the adjudication and pending procedural steps, not broader conclusions about the children’s circumstances or future treatment.
