YouTube says creators receive 70% of Super Chat revenue confirmed by Google. The calculation is not necessarily 70% of the viewer’s full checkout amount: YouTube deducts local sales tax and applicable iOS App Store fees first. YouTube currently covers transaction costs such as credit card fees.
What the 70% share applies to
YouTube’s Super Chat and Super Stickers guidance says, “Creators receive 70% of Supers revenue that is confirmed by Google.” Super Chat is part of “Supers,” the group that also includes Super Stickers. YouTube’s partner earnings overview likewise describes a 70% creator share of net revenue from channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers and Super Thanks for creators who accept the Commerce Product Module.
This is the creator’s share of the revenue base YouTube confirms, not a promise that the creator receives 70% of every amount shown at checkout. The remaining share should not be described as YouTube’s net profit: the cited help pages state the revenue share and relevant deductions, but do not provide a profit breakdown.
How deductions affect the calculation
YouTube says it calculates the creator’s share after deducting local sales tax and applicable iOS App Store fees. It currently covers transaction costs, including credit card fees. The documentation does not quantify the deductions for an individual purchase, so a displayed purchase amount alone is not enough to calculate a universal creator payout.

For example, a viewer’s checkout amount and the creator’s confirmed Supers revenue are different points in the calculation. Tax treatment and, for applicable iOS purchases, App Store fees can affect the amount before the 70% share is applied. YouTube’s guidance does not provide a single payout example that can safely be applied across regions and purchase routes.
Who can receive Super Chat revenue
Super Chat is available on eligible live streams and Premieres when live chat is enabled. Creators must have the relevant fan-funding terms in place, accept the Commerce Product Module where required, and turn on the individual feature. YouTube notes that legacy creators who accepted the former Commerce Product Addendum may not need to accept the new module. Requirements and availability can vary by feature, country or region.

Eligibility for Super Chat does not mean that every YouTube monetization feature pays the same percentage. YouTube lists separate revenue terms for other products, including watch-page ads and Shorts.
Where to check your terms and earnings
- Your agreement: In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Agreements to review the revenue-share terms that apply to your account.
- Your Supers reporting: In YouTube Analytics, open Revenue → How you make money to view Supers revenue.
YouTube’s official pages titled YouTube partner earnings overview and Manage YouTube Super Chat and Super Stickers for live chat describe the rate and calculation. The help pages do not state when the 70% rate began or provide a change history, so they do not establish a historical rate comparison.

Revenue share is not take-home pay
The deduction of sales tax in YouTube’s Super Chat calculation is separate from income-tax reporting or withholding. YouTube says YouTube Partner Program creators must submit U.S. tax information and may be subject to withholding; creators may also owe tax where they reside. Your eventual after-tax income depends on your circumstances and local rules, so the 70% platform share is not an estimate of take-home pay. Consult YouTube’s tax guidance and an appropriate tax professional for your jurisdiction.
