Estimate a 24/7 YouTube stream’s ad revenue from your channel’s own historical live-stream ad revenue per view—not from a generic CPM or from the number of hours you broadcast. Multiply expected live-stream views by the historical ad revenue per view, or divide expected views by 1,000 and multiply by your historical live-stream ad RPM. Treat the result as a scenario, not a promised payout: YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads and does not guarantee earnings.
Start with eligibility and the right revenue measure
Ad revenue is possible only if the channel is eligible for monetization and has the applicable Watch Page Monetization Module in place for live streams shown on the Watch Page. Check YouTube’s YouTube Partner Program overview and Watch Page Monetization Module terms for the requirements that apply to your channel.
For an estimate specifically about ads, use estimated ad revenue in YouTube Analytics, not total estimated revenue. Total creator revenue can include sources beyond advertising, so it answers a different question.
Calculate an estimate from live-stream data
Use data for a comparable live-stream format, audience, and period. YouTube Analytics provides a live filter to inspect ad revenue from live streams and replays; see YouTube Analytics revenue metrics and Monetize your live stream.

Method 1: historical ad revenue per view
Estimated live ad revenue = expected live-stream views × historical live-stream ad revenue per view.
Calculate the historical rate by dividing ad revenue from comparable live streams by their views. Multiply that rate by the views you expect during the forecast period. Keep the time period consistent: a rate from a week of similar streams is a more useful baseline for a weekly forecast than a rate drawn from a different format or season.
Method 2: live ad RPM
Estimated live ad revenue = expected live-stream views ÷ 1,000 × historical live-stream ad RPM.

Use an ad-only RPM if available. YouTube’s general RPM is creator revenue per 1,000 views after revenue share, but it may combine ads with YouTube Premium, memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers. A blended RPM can overstate the ad-only result when those other sources contribute materially.

There is no universal per-view rate that can reliably predict an arbitrary 24/7 stream. Build scenarios using your channel’s own comparable live data: vary the expected views and, where your records justify it, the historical ad rate. Label the assumptions and period next to each result. If you have no comparable live-stream history, you can estimate possible views, but an ad-revenue figure would depend on an unverified rate; do not present one as a dependable forecast.
Why 24/7 hours do not translate directly into revenue
A continuous schedule describes how long the stream is available, not how many people watch or how many ads are served. If you forecast from concurrent viewers, make the conversion assumptions explicit:

- Estimate average concurrent viewers over the period.
- Multiply by the hours streamed to get viewer-hours.
- Divide viewer-hours by an assumed average watch duration, expressed in hours, to estimate views.
- Use that view estimate in one of the revenue formulas above.
For example, concurrent viewers × broadcast hours produces viewer-hours, not views. The average watch-duration assumption is what turns viewer-hours into an approximate view count, and actual viewing behavior may differ.
Understand CPM, RPM, and monetized playbacks
These metrics measure different things, so substituting one for another can distort an estimate. YouTube defines them in its Analytics revenue metrics guide.

It is not the creator’s take-home rate.
- Playback-based CPM: advertiser spend per 1,000 video playbacks that included one or more ads.
- RPM: creator revenue per 1,000 views after revenue share; the general RPM may include several revenue sources, not just ads.
- Monetized playback: a playback in which an ad was shown. One playback can generate more than one ad impression.
- Estimated ad revenue: revenue attributed to ads, distinct from estimated revenue across all sources.
Views are not ad impressions or monetized playbacks. Some views receive no ad because of factors such as ad availability, targeting, viewer status, settings, or other conditions. Multiplying total views by advertiser CPM skips both the difference between views and ad impressions and YouTube’s revenue share.

How live ad settings affect the estimate
With live monetization enabled, YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically on. Mid-rolls can be automatic, scheduled, or inserted manually; none guarantees that every opportunity fills. See YouTube’s live monetization guidance for current controls and details.
Automatic mid-rolls
Automatic mid-rolls aim for natural breakpoints, with low, medium, and high frequency options. YouTube recommends them and reported that creators who chose automatic live mid-rolls saw an average uplift of over 20% in in-stream ad revenue per hour compared with channels that did not. That comparison averaged across 207 countries and was measured in January 2024. It is a YouTube-reported historical average, not a multiplier to apply to an individual channel or a promise of higher earnings.
YouTube says its automatic controls can limit disruption for members, pause mid-rolls for viewers sending certain fan-funding messages, and snooze ads during high-engagement moments. A creator should weigh potential ad opportunity against interruptions and judge the outcome using their own comparable Analytics data.

Scheduled and manual mid-rolls
YouTube documents scheduled breaks at intervals from 6 to 30 minutes. Manual insertion gives the creator more control over timing. These choices can affect when an ad opportunity is presented, but not whether an ad serves in every slot. Compare settings against viewer experience and actual ad revenue per hour in your own reporting rather than assuming a setting guarantees a particular return.
Check actual results and account for adjustments
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Analytics, then the Revenue tab.
- Select the live filter to review ad revenue from live streams and live replays.
- Compare similar periods and stream formats, and use the ad revenue measure rather than total estimated revenue.
- Revisit the estimate after YouTube updates the reported figures.
YouTube says monthly estimates may be adjusted for invalid traffic, Content ID claims or disputes, and certain ad campaign types. Its guidance describes an initial adjustment after one week and another in the middle of the following month. Accordingly, recent Analytics figures can change; see YouTube Partner earnings overview.
What an estimate can—and cannot—tell you
Your calculation is a planning scenario built from expected views and a historical rate. Ad delivery varies, and estimated revenue can be adjusted. YouTube’s Partner earnings overview states: “There are no guarantees under the YouTube partner agreement about how much or whether you’ll be paid.” A 24/7 schedule alone does not establish an expected payout.
