Yes, if the channel and livestream are eligible. A members-only audience does not, by itself, prevent Super Chats. The channel must have Supers enabled, and the stream must have live chat on and meet YouTube’s eligibility rules.
What has to be true for Super Chat to appear?
YouTube treats access to a members-only livestream and eligibility for Supers as separate settings. A stream can be restricted to channel members and still allow eligible viewers to buy Super Chats, but the feature is not guaranteed on every broadcast.
- The channel is eligible for Supers. YouTube’s minimum requirements include being in the YouTube Partner Program, being at least 18, and residing in a location where the feature is available. Feature-specific requirements and policy compliance also apply.
- Supers are enabled for the channel. The creator should check the Supers controls in YouTube Studio.
- Live chat is on. YouTube says Supers are automatically available on eligible livestreams and Premieres where live chat is turned on.
- The stream is not in an excluded state. YouTube lists age-restricted, unlisted, private, Made for Kids, and YouTube Giving fundraiser videos as ineligible for Supers. Supers are also unavailable when live chat or comments are off.
These conditions come from YouTube Help’s “Manage YouTube Super Chat & Super Stickers for Live Chat” and its commerce-policy eligibility guidance. Availability can vary by location and can change as YouTube updates its rules.
Members-only stream is not the same as members-only chat
A members-only livestream restricts who can watch: the creator sets the stream’s visibility to “Members only,” and can further limit it to particular membership levels. Non-members may see the thumbnail and stream details, but cannot watch the broadcast.

Members-only chat is different. It can be enabled during a public livestream, so everyone can watch while only members can post messages. It controls who can chat, not who can view the stream. YouTube explains this distinction in “Create or manage your YouTube channel’s memberships levels & perks.”
Super Chat and Member Milestone Chat are different

The distinction matters on a members-only broadcast: being a member may grant access to watch, but a Super Chat is still a separate purchase, while a milestone message is a separate membership perk.

If the Super Chat option is missing
- Check the stream itself. Confirm that live chat is on and that the broadcast is not age-restricted, unlisted, private, Made for Kids, or a YouTube Giving fundraiser.
- Check the channel’s Supers controls. The creator should verify Supers in YouTube Studio and confirm the channel remains eligible under YouTube’s current requirements.
- Check location eligibility. The creator’s location and the feature’s availability there can affect access. A viewer should also account for availability in their own location.
- Do not assume membership is the cause. Members-only access is not listed among YouTube’s stated Super Chat exclusions; another stream or channel condition may be responsible.
YouTube’s current payout guidance says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google, calculated after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees are deducted. This describes YouTube’s payout terms, not the amount a viewer pays or a guaranteed creator payout for any particular message.
