To show YouTube membership alerts on a 24/7 stream, first enable memberships in YouTube Studio, then either rely on YouTube’s built-in live-chat message or add a Streamlabs or StreamElements alert overlay to your encoder scene. Test the overlay in the actual always-on setup: the services document how to configure alerts, but their cited guidance does not promise that queued alerts will recover after an outage or encoder restart.
Confirm that YouTube memberships are enabled
In YouTube Studio, open Earn > Memberships. If your channel is eligible, select Get started, complete the prompts for membership levels and perks, and accept the Commerce Product Module. Memberships may not activate immediately after YPP acceptance: YouTube says its channel review can take up to two days. Check the Studio tab for your channel’s current status rather than assuming general eligibility thresholds mean memberships are already available. YouTube’s activation instructions explain the workflow.
Eligibility, including for creators in India
YouTube’s expanded YPP entry path lists 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the previous 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in 90 days. Channel memberships also have additional conditions: the creator must be at least 18, live in a country where the feature is available, accept the Commerce Product Module, and meet channel-specific requirements. These thresholds do not guarantee that a particular channel has memberships enabled. For the current status and available actions, use the channel’s Earn > Memberships tab. Choose how members will be recognized
Option 1: YouTube’s built-in live-chat message
When someone joins while the stream is live, YouTube displays a bright green “New member” message in live chat and pins the member’s profile picture at the top of chat for five minutes. This is the simplest option and needs no separate alert widget, but it appears in chat rather than as an animated graphic over the video. YouTube also states: “If you get a new member while you’re offline, we don’t send you a notification.” A 24/7 schedule does not remove that limitation if the channel or stream is offline when the person joins. Option 2: Streamlabs Alert Box
- Link the correct YouTube channel in Streamlabs.
- Open Alert Box and configure the YouTube Members event, including its visual and audio appearance.
- Add the Alert Box widget to the scene used by your streaming software. Streamlabs documents adding it in Streamlabs Desktop or OBS, or copying the widget URL into a browser source in other compatible software.
- Use Streamlabs’ test function, then check that the alert appears above the video layer and that its sound and animation work as intended.

Option 3: StreamElements overlay
- Sign in to StreamElements with the YouTube account connected to the channel.
- Customize an overlay in the editor and enable the newest-member alert you want to display.
- Add the overlay to your streaming software as a browser source, placing it in the intended scene above the video layer.
- Test the alert and confirm its visual and audio behavior in the scene used for the 24/7 stream.

Test the alert in the actual 24/7 setup
Product documentation establishes supported setup paths, not guaranteed alert delivery through every always-on configuration. Test the overlay in the same scene, software, and reconnect process you use for the live stream. Re-test after changing scenes or reconnecting the encoder. The cited guidance does not specify whether an alert queue is restored after a stream outage or encoder restart, so do not promise viewers that an alert will appear after such an interruption.
- Confirm the overlay is connected to the right YouTube channel and the member event is enabled.
- Check that the widget or browser source is visible above the video layer, not hidden behind it or excluded from the active scene.
- Run the service’s test function and verify animation, placement, and audio at the volume used on stream.
- Repeat the test after any scene change or encoder reconnection that could affect the source.
- Keep in mind that YouTube’s native live-chat message is for joins while the stream is live; YouTube says it does not notify creators about joins while they are offline.
