How to Make a 24/7 YouTube Study Beats Radio Stream

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can run a 24/7 study-beats radio stream by looping music and a visual through an encoder connected to YouTube Live. First clear the rights to every track and image, then enable YouTube Live, configure the encoder, and test the complete feed before leaving it unattended. “24/7” describes the intended schedule, not a guarantee: the encoder, power, network, and YouTube connection can fail, and YouTube may not archive a stream that runs longer than 12 hours.

Before you start: clear the music and visual rights

Use tracks and visuals you own or have explicit permission to broadcast. Check that each license covers live streaming and, if relevant, replay and monetization; those permissions can differ, and the terms depend on the rights holder. A purchase or a “royalty-free” label alone does not establish that every use is covered.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the video with a placeholder, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. Even if you have a license, YouTube says the stream can still be interrupted when the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID. If you use licensed third-party music, ask the rights owner whether it can add your channel to the allowlist. YouTube Help: copyright issues with live streams.

Prepare the visual as well as the audio. It could be a still image or a moving scene, but make sure you have permission to use it and that the encoder can send it alongside the music. Test the actual combination you plan to broadcast; a music file playing locally does not prove viewers will hear it in the live feed.

Enable YouTube Live and create an encoder stream

  1. Check channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave setup until the intended launch time. See YouTube Help: get started with live streaming.
  2. Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a stream. Choose an encoder-based stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. YouTube’s setup guide explains the current flow: YouTube Help: live stream with an encoder.
  3. Copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Keep it private, and do not show it in screenshots or recordings. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.

Choose how to keep the playlist running

YouTube accepts encoder software running on a computer and dedicated hardware encoders. Neither approach removes the need to plan for continuous power, network access, media availability, and recovery if the connection drops. YouTube does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 operation or automatic recovery for a particular encoder setup.

Software encoder on a computer

This is a practical route if you already have a computer that can play the playlist, render the visual, and encode video while staying powered on and connected. You control the media and can make a local recording, but the stream depends on that computer, its operating system, the encoder, and the home or studio network. Updates, sleep settings, reboots, and a closed laptop lid can stop the feed unless configured and tested appropriately.

Dedicated hardware encoder

A hardware encoder can send a prepared audio/video feed without relying on a general-purpose computer to do the encoding. It is a separate device to configure and maintain, and the stream still relies on power, network connectivity, and the source media. YouTube’s guidance recognizes hardware encoders as an option but does not establish a product-by-product comparison or a specific device recommendation.

Configure the encoder and test the full feed

In the encoder, add the visual and audio sources, set the YouTube stream URL and key, and choose settings the device and upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate encoding, and a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Its bitrate recommendations vary by resolution, frame rate, and codec; use the relevant value in YouTube’s settings guide rather than treating one bitrate as universal. For the documented encoder settings, YouTube recommends stereo audio at 128 Kbps. See YouTube Help: encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

  • Resolution and frame rate: Select a combination appropriate for the visual and the encoder’s capacity. Higher settings need more upload bandwidth and encoding capacity.
  • Keyframes: Set the interval to two seconds; do not exceed four seconds.
  • Bitrate: Use YouTube’s recommendation for the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate. Set constant bitrate if the encoder offers that option.
  • Audio: Confirm the music source is selected and audible in the encoder preview; use AAC or MP3 and the documented 128 Kbps stereo recommendation where applicable.
  • Transport: Use RTMPS when supported by the encoder and stream configuration.

Test with the same kind of audio and motion you intend to stream. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, wait for the encoder preview and check the picture, audio level, synchronization, and stream health before starting the public broadcast. A static preview or a brief test using different media can miss problems that emerge during continuous playback.

Make sure the upload connection has headroom

Your available upload speed must exceed the total stream bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the stream bitrate; shared networks can reduce the bandwidth available to the encoder, and connection disruptions can break a stream. Avoid running a stream at the edge of your connection’s capacity. YouTube’s streaming tips cover bandwidth and connection considerations.

Go live, monitor it, and plan for interruptions

  1. Start the encoder and check the preview. Confirm that YouTube receives the intended visual and that the music is present and at a sensible level.
  2. Start the broadcast in Live Control Room. Follow the status shown there rather than assuming that a running encoder means viewers can see and hear a healthy stream.
  3. Monitor the output. Check stream health and listen to the actual output. A network disruption, encoder failure, computer restart, power loss, or missing media file can interrupt continuous playback.
  4. Plan and test recovery. Decide how you will detect a stopped feed and restart it. Test that procedure with the chosen setup; recovery behavior depends on the encoder and configuration, not on a general YouTube uptime guarantee.

Understand the replay and DVR limits

YouTube may automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind can also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Do not promise viewers that one uninterrupted multi-day broadcast will produce a complete public replay. If keeping a recording matters, make a local recording and verify that storage is sufficient; ending and restarting broadcasts may affect how viewers access the stream, so plan that schedule deliberately. See YouTube Help: archive live streams.

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check or do
Encoder cannot connect Incorrect stream URL or key, or a connection/transport issue. Copy the current URL and key from YouTube Studio, check that the key was not changed, and confirm RTMPS is configured if supported. Keep the key private.
Preview does not appear or stream health is poor Encoder settings exceed available upload capacity, or the connection is unstable. Check the selected bitrate and resolution against YouTube’s guidance, reduce settings if necessary, and leave the recommended 20% upload headroom. Check whether other devices are using the network.
Viewers cannot hear the music The wrong audio source is selected, the source is muted, or audio is not reaching the encoder. Listen to the encoder and YouTube preview, verify the playlist is playing, check the selected input and levels, and test again before going live.
Music is replaced, interrupted, or the stream ends YouTube has detected third-party content, or the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel. Review the rights for the track and live use. Contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting; a license alone may not prevent a live interruption.
Stream stops after the computer is left unattended The host slept, rebooted, lost power or network, or the encoder or media player stopped. Review power and sleep settings, updates, network stability, and playlist behavior. Test the recovery procedure rather than assuming the stream will restart itself.
No complete replay is available The broadcast exceeded 12 hours, beyond the duration for which YouTube says automatic archiving may not capture the stream. Keep a local recording if a replay is important, and do not rely on DVR rewind for a very long stream.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want a YouTube study-beats stream without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on YouTube. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed.
