Use YouTube Studio to check whether your channel and live stream are set up to show ads, then use YouTube Analytics to review ad revenue after the stream. These checks can confirm monetization settings and show aggregate results; they cannot prove that a particular viewer received an ad. YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.
Check that the channel and stream are eligible and monetized

In YouTube Studio, confirm your channel is eligible for Watch Page ad revenue and has accepted the Watch Page Monetization Module. Live-stream Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium revenue depend on these requirements. See YouTube’s monetization settings guidance.

Open the broadcast in Live Control Room and inspect its Monetization setting. Confirm that it is On. This verifies the stream’s configuration, not that YouTube served an ad.

Check the selected mid-roll mode and, if it is manual, verify that you actually inserted a break. With manual placement, enabling monetization alone does not create a mid-roll break.

When live-stream monetization is on, pre-roll and display ads are enabled automatically. Mid-rolls can be automatic, scheduled, or manual. YouTube’s ad systems decide which eligible slots receive ads, and viewers do not all necessarily see one. YouTube’s live-stream monetization guide states: “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.”
Choose a mid-roll mode that suits an always-on stream

For a long-running channel, automatic or scheduled breaks reduce the need for someone to insert every break. Manual mode offers placement control but requires an operator or a configured control to send breaks. YouTube names the Elgato Stream Deck YouTube plug-in as an optional way to insert ad breaks; it is a control, not a way to verify ad delivery. See YouTube’s guidance for current details.

Use live metrics for stream health, then Analytics for ad results
While the stream is live
In Live Control Room, review stream health and available real-time metrics. These help diagnose whether the broadcast is reaching YouTube reliably; they do not confirm an ad was served. YouTube explains the available live metrics in its live-stream metrics guide.
After the stream
Open YouTube Analytics and review the live-stream ad revenue breakdown. If a report is unavailable when you filter to Live only, follow the report’s filter guidance; a missing report is not, by itself, evidence of zero ad delivery. Analytics reports aggregate monetization performance, not a receipt for the ad experience of an individual viewer.

If you do not see ads, separate the possible causes
- Channel eligibility or module: Recheck eligibility for Watch Page ad revenue and acceptance of the Watch Page Monetization Module.
- Stream setting: Confirm Monetization is On for the broadcast, not just that the channel has monetization enabled.
- Mid-roll setup: Check the selected mode. For manual mode, confirm a break was inserted; for scheduled mode, verify the interval.
- Content suitability or restrictions: Advertiser suitability and age restrictions can limit monetization or ad availability. Review YouTube’s explanation of how ads work on live streams.
- Slot selection and viewer availability: Even when setup is correct and a break exists, YouTube may not serve an ad in that slot, and a viewer may not receive one.
Accordingly, the strongest creator-side conclusion is about configuration and aggregate performance: settings can be correct without an ad appearing for every viewer. The official guidance does not describe a deterministic creator-side indicator that confirms ad delivery to one specific viewer.
What YouTube’s automatic mid-roll figure does—and does not—mean
In January 2024, YouTube reported over 20% average uplift in in-stream ad revenue per hour for creators who chose live automatic mid-rolls compared with channels without the feature, averaged across 207 countries. This is a reported comparison across that group, not a forecast or guaranteed result for an individual channel. YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance provides the associated details.
