In OBS, add the video and music as separate Media Source sources, then turn on Loop in each source’s properties. They will repeat independently, so the video and audio do not need to be the same length. For a multi-file playlist, use VLC Video and enable Loop Playlist.
Loop one video and one music file
- Add the video. In the Sources dock, select + → Media Source. Create a new source, give it a recognizable name such as “Radio video,” and select the video file in its properties.
- Enable the video loop. In the Media Source properties, check Loop. OBS documents this setting as off by default; when enabled, the file plays again after playback completes. Select OK.
- Add the music separately. Select + → Media Source again, create a source such as “Radio music,” and choose the audio file.
- Enable the music loop. Check Loop in the music source’s properties and select OK. Keeping video and music as separate sources lets each repeat on its own schedule.
- Check the scene and output. Confirm the video is visible in the preview and that the music source is present in the scene. Make a private or unlisted test stream and verify both picture and sound reach YouTube before broadcasting publicly.
OBS Media Source documentation lists common local video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. The actual file must also play correctly in your installed OBS release; supported extensions alone do not guarantee a problem-free file.
The Restart playback when source becomes active property is on by default in the documented Media Source controls. It affects what happens when the source becomes active, not whether a file loops after it ends. OBS does not specify a synchronization method or guarantee gapless transitions between separate files, so check your own media in a test stream.
Use a playlist for multiple tracks or clips
For a playlist of music files or video clips, add a VLC Video source rather than building a separate Media Source for every item. This source requires VLC to be installed; OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. If VLC Video does not appear in the Sources menu, check the VLC installation and that its architecture matches OBS.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- In Sources, select + → VLC Video, then create the source.
- In its properties, add the files to the playlist in the order you want them played.
- Leave Loop Playlist enabled to repeat the list. OBS documents it as on by default.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off for ordered playback, or turn it on if you want randomized order; its documented default is off.
- Test the playlist in a private or unlisted broadcast. Confirm the expected picture and sound, especially at file boundaries.
The OBS Media Sources documentation, dated January 11, 2022, describes these controls and defaults. Since no OBS release is specified here, check the labels and behavior in the version installed on your computer.
Check music rights before going live
A playback loop does not grant permission to broadcast music. Confirm that your rights or license cover the uses you intend, including live streaming, an archived replay, monetization, territories, and any required attribution. A “royalty-free” label, credit in the description, or music subscription by itself does not establish that those uses are permitted; the applicable terms depend on the specific rights agreement.

YouTube says it scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it identifies content, YouTube may show a warning and replace the stream with a placeholder image; if the content remains, the stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. YouTube advises creators with a license to ask the rights owner to add their channel to the Content ID allowlist. A licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted, and an archived live stream may receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The file plays once and stops: Open that source’s properties and make sure Loop is checked. Video and music are separate sources, so check both.
- The music or picture is missing: Confirm the source is in the active scene, the intended local file is selected, and it plays in OBS. Make a private or unlisted test to confirm the intended output receives both.
- VLC Video is missing: Install VLC and match its architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- A playlist does not repeat or plays in an unexpected order: Check Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist in the VLC Video properties.
- YouTube warns, replaces the picture, interrupts, or terminates the stream: Treat this as a possible third-party-content match. Stop using content you have not cleared, and if you hold a license, contact the rights owner about adding your channel to the Content ID allowlist.
