OBS YouTube Live Stream Disconnecting in India: Network Settings to Check

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If OBS keeps disconnecting from YouTube Live, first check whether OBS’s network dropped-frame counter is rising. If it is, lower the stream bitrate to fit your sustained upload speed, then test OBS’s network settings and your connection path one change at a time. YouTube and OBS publish general guidance; it does not establish a special setting for India or identify a nationwide or ISP-specific fault.

First confirm that the problem is network delivery

In OBS, watch the network “Dropped frames” counter and connection indicator while streaming. OBS says a rising dropped-frame count and a yellow or red connection square indicate that the connection to the streaming service is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Too many network dropped frames can disconnect the stream. OBS sends directly from your computer to the streaming service; the OBS Project does not provide an intermediary server. OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting (dated September 30, 2024) and the OBS Help Portal describe this network symptom.

Also check the stream-health messages in YouTube Live Control Room. A poor-looking or choppy stream alone does not prove a network problem; use OBS’s network counter and YouTube’s health messages as evidence. YouTube recommends monitoring stream health and messages during the event. YouTube live encoder settings (guidance accessed in 2026).

Set bitrate for reliable upload, not a speed-test peak

Run an upload speed test before the broadcast, as YouTube recommends, but do not treat a brief peak as capacity you can sustain throughout a stream. OBS’s 2024 troubleshooting guide suggests beginning at about 75% of total upload speed for the video bitrate. Treat that as a starting point, not a guarantee: YouTube’s recommendations vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate, and your connection needs dependable headroom.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

For example, if your connection reliably sustains 8 Mbps upload, 75% is 6 Mbps for video. This is simply an application of OBS’s starting-point guidance, not a prediction about any Indian broadband plan or a guarantee that a stream will stay connected.

YouTube’s published bitrate guidance

The following are YouTube’s listed minimum and recommended video bitrates for these modes, accessed in 2026. Match the row to the codec, resolution, and frame rate you actually use; these recommendations do not establish that your internet connection can sustain the rate.

Resolution and frame rate Codec Minimum Recommended
1080p at 60 fps H.264 6 Mbps 17 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps H.264 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps AV1 or H.265 4 Mbps 12 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps AV1 or H.265 4 Mbps 10 Mbps
720p at 60 fps H.264 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
720p at 30 fps H.264 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
720p at 60 fps AV1 or H.265 6 Mbps 6 Mbps
720p at 30 fps AV1 or H.265 6 Mbps 6 Mbps

Source for the table: YouTube live encoder settings, accessed in 2026. Keep OBS’s 75% upload starting point and YouTube’s codec-specific recommendations distinct: if the recommended rate cannot fit within reliable upload with headroom, try a lower resolution or frame rate, or improve the connection before going live.

Check OBS network settings

  1. Open Settings → Advanced → Network. Check that Bind to IP is set to Default, as OBS recommends.
  2. Test IPv4 Only. Temporarily change IP Family to IPv4 Only and test. If it makes no difference, restore the default IPv4 and IPv6 option. This is a reversible diagnostic, not evidence that IPv6 generally causes YouTube disconnections.
  3. On Windows, test the optional network controls. Try Enable network optimizations and Enable TCP pacing. OBS reports users have seen improvement and that the options add useful log detail, but they are not guaranteed fixes. These controls are Windows-only in OBS’s guide.
  4. Use Dynamic Bitrate only as a fallback. The beta option Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion can lower bitrate when the connection cannot keep up. OBS cautions that this does not fix the underlying connection and can reduce picture quality.

Change one setting at a time and test long enough to see whether the dropped-frame counter and YouTube stream health improve. OBS documents these checks in its network troubleshooting guide.

Test the connection path and software interference

Compare wired Ethernet with Wi-Fi

If the computer is on Wi-Fi, connect it to the router with Ethernet and repeat the same test. OBS recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. A wired connection can help isolate wireless trouble, but it cannot rule out congestion farther along the ISP route. If general connectivity is also unreliable, restart the modem and router. For a diagnostic test, use a suitable Ethernet cable; replacing equipment is not a universal fix.

Isolate VPNs, security software, and network utilities

  • Temporarily test with VPN software disabled. If stability changes, investigate the VPN route rather than assuming OBS itself is at fault.
  • Security software can interfere with a stream. If a controlled test identifies it as the cause, add an OBS exception and re-enable the security software; do not leave protection disabled.
  • Check manufacturer or bundled network-prioritization software, which may deprioritize OBS traffic.
  • Update network drivers from your computer or motherboard manufacturer.

Consider hardware only after isolating the fault

A modem, router, cable, network card, switch, or extender can contribute to a connection problem. Test and diagnose before replacing parts; OBS advises contacting the ISP first if you are unsure whether hardware is faulty.

Verify YouTube encoder compatibility and test before broadcast

YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended keyframe frequency of two seconds that should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts data into and through Google’s servers. Use settings appropriate to your selected workflow; an encoder-setting mismatch is not, by itself, proof of a network fault. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings for its current requirements and recommendations.

Before the actual broadcast, test with audio and motion similar to what you plan to stream, then monitor stream health and its messages during the event. YouTube notes that 4K/2160 streams use normal latency; its low-latency improvement is unavailable for that resolution.

When and how to contact your ISP

If a suitable bitrate, wired test, OBS network checks, and software isolation do not resolve intermittent disconnections, contact your ISP. Provide specific evidence so support can investigate the connection and route rather than guessing from the fact that you are in India:

  • The times of the disconnections and the corresponding OBS logs.
  • Whether OBS’s network dropped-frame counter rose, and when.
  • Upload-test results and whether they were stable across repeated tests.
  • Whether the computer used Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
  • YouTube Live Control Room stream-health messages.
  • Whether lowering bitrate, disabling a VPN, or testing another connection changed the result.

OBS notes that ISP-side changes and unexpected congestion on network routes can cause trouble beyond the user’s control. The available official guidance does not identify a particular Indian provider, region, or route as responsible. Compare symptoms and timestamps across tests or networks before drawing a conclusion about an individual ISP.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running rather than troubleshoot a live OBS production, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot; automatic recovery can restart the stream if YouTube drops it. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded video streams to YouTube, not camera broadcasts. Start the free first day.
