Who Dacast’s Simulcast workflow suits
Dacast is a plausible fit when you already have an encoder producing a live feed into a Dacast live channel and want to distribute that feed to YouTube as an additional destination. It is not, on the documented evidence, a confirmed all-in-one way to upload a video and loop it continuously to YouTube.
That distinction matters: a continuous encoder feed and a prerecorded-video loop are different workflows. Dacast’s documentation treats VOD Rebroadcast separately from Simulcast; it does not establish that VOD Rebroadcast can be sent through Simulcast continuously for a 24/7 YouTube stream.
How Dacast Simulcast sends a channel to YouTube
- Prepare an existing Dacast live channel. Simulcast attaches destinations to a channel that already exists. It does not originate the live feed. The channel must be fed by an encoder.
- Open the channel’s engagement settings. In Dacast, select the live channel and open its engagement settings, then add YouTube as a destination.
- Enter the YouTube stream key in Dacast. YouTube provides the server URL and stream key for encoder-based streaming. Dacast’s guide says to enter the YouTube stream key as the destination credential.
- Update the encoder’s Dacast ingest address. Dacast warns that adding destinations changes the Dacast ingest URL. Use the updated address in the encoder or the feed may continue going to the old ingest endpoint.
- Start and verify the feed. Check the YouTube preview and stream health before treating the destination as live. Playback on the destination remains subject to YouTube’s platform limits and behavior.
The exact labels and options available can depend on the current Dacast interface and account configuration. Dacast’s documented process establishes the destination workflow, not an uninterrupted 24/7 service guarantee.

What YouTube requires before you can go live
- The channel must be verified, live streaming must be enabled, and the channel must not have live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before a scheduled launch.
- For encoder streaming, YouTube supplies a server URL and stream key. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Follow YouTube’s current encoder settings for the chosen resolution and frame rate. The material available here does not establish a Dacast-specific bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval, so use the live values shown in YouTube’s current guidance rather than assuming a setting.
Can Dacast keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running 24/7?
That capability is not established by the documented Simulcast workflow. Dacast says Simulcast is for encoder channels, while VOD Rebroadcast is a separate feature. The reviewed documentation does not verify the combination needed to loop prerecorded video continuously to YouTube.

- Whether your selected channel type can loop or rebroadcast prerecorded video continuously.
- Whether that specific channel type can be simulcast to YouTube, given the stated distinction between Simulcast and VOD Rebroadcast.
- Which plan includes the required features, and what bandwidth, usage, or destination limits apply.
- What happens after an encoder interruption or a YouTube disconnect, and whether reconnecting is automatic for your configuration.
Continuity, network headroom, and archives
Allow upload headroom and monitor stream health
YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload headroom. A network disruption can break a live stream, so test the complete encoder-to-Dacast-to-YouTube path, preview the destination, and monitor stream health. For a long-running feed, decide in advance who will respond to an interruption and how the source will be restored.
Do not assume a 24/7 stream will have a complete YouTube archive
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that a single continuous stream longer than 12 hours will produce a complete automatic archive. If you need a full recording, arrange separate recording or archiving and verify it works before relying on it.

Plan for source and destination failures
Dacast describes Simulcast as distributing one incoming stream through its infrastructure, but that is a vendor capability claim, not an independently verified uptime result for a particular customer setup. The available evidence does not establish an independent uptime figure or prove uninterrupted operation for a specific configuration. Confirm reconnect behavior with Dacast and maintain a practical recovery plan for encoder, network, Dacast, and YouTube interruptions.
Copyright and YouTube policy for unattended streams
YouTube’s live-streaming terms put responsibility on the content provider to have the rights needed to use the live content, including applicable music licensing rights, and to comply with applicable laws and platform guidelines. This is especially important for unattended feeds that repeat music, footage, or other third-party material. A stream key or a technically successful simulcast does not grant rights to the content.

Dacast markets Simulcast to YouTube, but exact current plan pricing and plan entitlements for the workflow described here are not established by the available product information. Confirm the current plan price, Simulcast availability, bandwidth or usage limits, support terms, and whether the plan supports your intended channel type directly with Dacast before committing.
If your requirement is a prerecorded video loop rather than distributing an encoder-originated live feed, compare the confirmed Dacast workflow with a service designed to play uploaded videos continuously from the cloud. The two approaches are not interchangeable: Dacast’s documented Simulcast needs an existing encoder live channel.
