A YouTube 24/7 lofi radio is a continuous live audio-and-video feed sent by an encoder to YouTube. Keeping it running requires both a stable feed and music rights that cover livestreaming; YouTube scans live streams for copyrighted material and may interrupt them. The public documentation explains how YouTube represents an ongoing feed, but it does not establish the private hardware, software, or rights arrangements used by Lofi Girl or any other specific station.
What “24/7 radio” means on YouTube
A lofi radio channel presents music and visuals through an ongoing YouTube livestream. “24/7” describes the intended continuous broadcast, not a special music license or a guarantee that the stream cannot be interrupted.
YouTube’s API distinguishes two parts of the setup: a liveStream resource holds the connection and delivery settings used to transmit audio and video, while a liveBroadcast represents the live event. An encoder is configured with the stream settings and sends the feed to YouTube. YouTube’s API documentation even describes a 24/7 feed continuing while a separate interview broadcast starts and later ends. What keeps the broadcast going
A continuous audio-video feed
The encoder must keep sending the feed for the live event to remain continuous. The API documentation establishes the encoder’s role, but does not specify what hardware, software, hosting arrangement, or backup system a particular station uses. A calm animated room, a rotating collection of beats, and live chat are familiar elements of the lofi-radio experience; they are not requirements imposed on every channel.

Music and visuals prepared for the stream
Creators need suitable audio and visual material for the broadcast. A right to use a track does not automatically grant rights to associated artwork, characters, or animations; permissions for each asset must be checked separately.
Why music rights matter more than the loop
YouTube Help says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” When it detects a match, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn the broadcaster. If the material remains, the stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a livestream. A license may not prevent a live interruption
A license is important, but it may not by itself prevent YouTube’s live copyright system from flagging the broadcast. YouTube advises creators who have licensed third-party content to ask the rights holder to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube says a stream can still be interrupted without that allowlisting, even when the creator has licensed the content and restricted the stream to territories where they hold the necessary rights.
Creator Music is not a livestream license
YouTube’s published Creator Music rules say its tracks offered for licensing or revenue sharing can be used in long-form videos, but not in livestreams or Shorts. The related licensed-track monetization applies to watch-page views, not live streams. Do not treat Creator Music as permission to use a track in a 24/7 broadcast. Live scanning and archived-video claims are different
If a creator chooses to archive a completed stream, YouTube says Content ID claims may be made on the archived live video. That is separate from live scanning, which can affect a broadcast while it is still running.
Lofi Girl illustrates why catalog terms need close reading
Lofi Girl’s terms state that its tracks may be reproduced, broadcast, or shared only on a listed set of platforms that includes YouTube, and specify attribution instructions for YouTube. They also say commercial use requires prior agreement. Separately, the terms describe its illustrations as for private use. Permission to use tracks therefore should not be read as permission to reuse the channel’s artwork. These terms apply to Lofi Girl materials; they are not a general license for lofi music. How to plan a legally and operationally sound station
- Clear the music for the actual use. Obtain rights that cover continuous YouTube livestreaming. Owning an audio file, crediting its artist, or choosing not to monetize does not by itself establish those rights.
- Read the license scope. Check whether it covers livestreaming, looping, monetization, relevant territories, and the platforms where you intend to broadcast. Keep the agreement and rights records available in case of a claim or interruption.
- Ask about Content ID allowlisting. If the rights holder uses Content ID, ask whether it will allowlist your channel. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption.
- Clear visuals separately. Use original or properly licensed artwork and animation. Do not assume music permission covers illustrations or characters.
- Follow catalog-specific attribution. If using Lofi Girl tracks, follow its stated YouTube attribution instructions and obtain prior agreement for commercial use.
- Configure the stream and operate the feed. Set up the YouTube stream and an encoder to send the audio-video feed. YouTube’s API documentation explains the resource model; it does not endorse a particular encoder or hosting product.

YouTube’s public API documentation explains how a continuous feed can coexist with separate broadcast events, and YouTube Help explains its copyright scanning and allowlisting rules.
