To keep prerecorded video broadcasting live, send a looping video feed to YouTube Live with an encoder—or use a cloud service built for continuous streaming. The key difference: YouTube Loop repeats playback for a viewer; an encoder or cloud service sends a live feed to your channel.
Choose what you mean by “loop”
Repeat a video while watching
To replay a video for yourself, open it on a computer, right-click the video, and choose Loop. To repeat a playlist, use the playlist’s separate loop control. These controls affect playback on YouTube; they do not create a broadcast. YouTube’s desktop instructions for looping videos and playlists explain the viewer controls.
Broadcast a prerecorded video as a livestream
For a channel livestream, an encoder must send the video feed to YouTube Live. An encoder converts video into a format YouTube can receive. It can be software on a computer, standalone hardware, or a cloud workflow. YouTube lists encoder options and identifies Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming; a paid product is not inherently required. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
What you need before starting
- Live streaming enabled on your YouTube channel. If this is your first livestream, activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance. Allow for that before a scheduled launch.
- A looping source. Prepare the video or playlist in the encoder or cloud service you choose, and confirm the loop behavior there.
- Your YouTube stream URL and stream key. You’ll copy these from YouTube Studio into the encoder’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who gets it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Reset it if you think it has been exposed. YouTube explains stream settings in Manage live stream settings.
- A dependable upload path for a local encoder. The available upload bandwidth must support the stream bitrate. Interruptions in the connection can break the stream; see YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Rights to all video and audio. Only broadcast content you are permitted to use, and follow YouTube’s policies. A looping format does not exempt a channel from copyright or other platform rules; review YouTube’s livestreaming tips.
Set up a continuous YouTube livestream with an encoder
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a stream or select the stream you plan to use. If streaming for the first time, enable livestreaming ahead of time and allow for activation, which YouTube says may take up to 24 hours.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. Find the stream settings in Live Control Room, then copy both values into your encoder’s stream destination settings. Keep the key private; if it is compromised, reset it in YouTube’s stream settings.
- Configure the source to repeat. Add the prerecorded video or playlist to your encoder and enable looping. Check the end-to-start transition and confirm that the intended audio and video are included. Encoder controls vary, so consult the documentation for your chosen software or hardware rather than assuming a YouTube watch-page Loop setting controls the encoder.
- Check the outgoing feed and preview. Start the encoder’s preview or send the feed to Live Control Room, then check that video and audio appear correctly before going live. Resolve any source or connection issue before relying on the stream unattended.
- Start the broadcast and verify it is visible. Use YouTube’s Live Control Room to go live when the preview is ready. Check the channel or watch page, and verify the stream on a mobile device as well.
- Monitor the run. YouTube recommends continuously checking audio and video quality. For a local encoder, that also means watching the computer, encoder and network connection; YouTube warns that connection disruptions can interrupt a stream. Test your setup before depending on it for a long unattended broadcast.
- Keep a local recording if you need a complete archive. YouTube says livestreams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. If preserving the full broadcast matters, record it locally and confirm that the recording is growing during the stream. Details: Archive live streams and Turn on DVR on live streams.
Pick the setup that fits your run
| Approach | What it involves | Main consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder | Run encoder software or hardware on site and send its feed to YouTube using the stream URL and key. | The computer or encoder and its internet connection need to remain available. YouTube recommends continuous quality monitoring; its documentation does not establish a comparative reliability or cost advantage for local or cloud setups. |
| Cloud streaming service | Send or upload the prerecorded source to a service that streams it to YouTube. | It avoids relying on a local computer staying on, but compare services on their actual capabilities, price and terms. YouTube identifies Gyre as a cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded-video tool; its documentation does not provide a general cost or reliability comparison. |
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot includes one always-on YouTube stream, 10 GB of storage per slot (pooled across active slots), looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. Your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode and no quality tiers; the same features are included on every plan, and only the billing length changes.
