But scheduling does not make a stream run continuously: for a camera-based study session, the encoder, computer or hardware, power, and internet connection must keep sending video. YouTube does not guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 operation, and a single stream lasting more than 12 hours may not be archived at all.
What “schedule a 24/7 stream” means
Scheduling creates an upcoming YouTube watch page that you can share before the broadcast. It does not start your encoder or guarantee that a continuous broadcast will stay online. For a live study-with-me camera or scene, you need an encoder sending video to YouTube throughout the session, plus a reliable setup and monitoring appropriate to your situation.
A 24/7 stream is one continuous broadcast, not a guarantee of a complete replay. YouTube warns that if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. DVR, which lets viewers pause or rewind a live broadcast, may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers cannot seek back to before the stream went live. If a replay matters, plan to record locally and verify that recording while the stream runs.
Check channel eligibility before scheduling
- Your channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. Enable it well before you announce a start time.
- YouTube recommends configuring the encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time so you can check the preview.

Schedule the YouTube watch page
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then open Manage → Schedule Stream.
- Choose Reuse settings if you have an earlier stream configuration to carry forward, or create a new stream.
- Enter the stream details and choose the intended privacy setting. Check the title, description, thumbnail and scheduled time before saving.
- Open the scheduled watch page and confirm it is accessible as intended. Share its URL with viewers in advance. A scheduled stream may appear in subscribers’ feeds, and viewers can select Notify me to request a reminder.

Connect an encoder and go live
- Choose an encoder. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders; a dedicated hardware unit is optional, not a requirement. Prepare the camera or study scene and check that its audio and video are being captured.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, find the stream’s server URL and stream key. Enter both in your encoder. Treat the key as a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- Before the scheduled start, start sending the feed from the encoder. Wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room and check that the image and sound are correct.
- When ready, select Go live in Live Control Room. Confirm the public watch page works and keep monitoring the stream and any local recording.
- To finish, select End Stream in YouTube and stop sending content from the encoder.
YouTube explains encoder setup and the stream key in its live encoder help and stream settings guidance. YouTube describes the stream key as the password and address for the feed; protect it accordingly.

Prepare for a long-running broadcast
Test before sharing the event
- Run a test stream and confirm the preview, watch page, sound and picture work.
- Check that viewers can access the event through the channel and watch-page link, including on mobile devices.
- If you need a replay, record locally and make sure the local recording file is growing.
- Decide how you will monitor the encoder, internet connection, power and content source. A preflight check can reveal problems, but cannot guarantee that a 24/7 broadcast will stay online.
YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend testing the stream, checking accessibility and monitoring quality. YouTube’s archive guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all; keep a local copy if the footage is important. Set clear expectations for viewers
Tell late arrivals that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on a stream longer than 12 hours, and that they cannot rewind to a point before the broadcast began. If viewers need to revisit earlier study blocks, provide separate recordings or sessions rather than relying on one uninterrupted stream archive.
