You can run a continuous YouTube music stream with OBS by creating an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, sending OBS a playlist of music and visuals you have the right to broadcast, and keeping the computer, power and internet connection available. First enable live streaming and test the full setup. Plan separately for outages and replays: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but does not promise an archive for a continuous 24-hour stream.
What you need before starting
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours; its general live-stream page sets a minimum age of 16.
- OBS installed on a computer that can remain powered and connected for the intended broadcast.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your stream bitrate.
- Music and visuals you are entitled to broadcast live to your intended audience, including any replay or recording.
YouTube’s interface labels can change. The steps below use the current documented route: YouTube Studio Create > Go Live, then Live Control Room.
How to make a 24/7 YouTube music stream with OBS
1. Enable live streaming and check channel status
- Sign in to YouTube with the channel that will host the stream and complete channel verification if prompted.
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create > Go Live and follow the prompts to enable live streaming.
- Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. Check that the channel has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days and that the person operating it meets YouTube’s stated minimum age of 16.
2. Prepare the music and visuals
Build a playlist or audio source in OBS and create a visual scene to accompany it. Test that the music repeats as intended, that transitions do not create silence, and that the visuals are suitable for a continuous broadcast. Keep the computer’s audio routing and OBS scene simple enough to monitor.
Use original music or obtain permission and licenses that cover the planned live broadcast, audience territories and any recording or replay. A music subscription, attribution, or permission to play a track privately does not by itself establish permission to retransmit it publicly.

3. Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio > Create > Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, create a stream or select an existing encoder stream, then find its server URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube as the service if it is offered, or enter the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room using the available custom-server option.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube treats it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a broadcast to your stream.
Do not share screenshots or recordings that expose the key. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the new key.
4. Configure OBS output and check upload capacity
Choose an output resolution and bitrate that your computer can encode and your connection can sustain. The supplied YouTube guidance does not establish one recommended OBS bitrate preset for every computer, resolution and connection, so do not copy a number without matching it to your intended output and encoder settings. Check your actual upload bandwidth rather than relying on download speed.

YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom beyond the stream’s total bitrate. For example, if the combined stream bitrate is B, plan for upload capacity of at least 1.2 × B under the conditions where you will broadcast. The available upload bandwidth can fluctuate; setting OBS at the absolute measured limit leaves little margin for network variation.
Set OBS’s video and audio output to the format and quality you intend to send, then run a test and watch for dropped frames, buffering, distorted audio or encoder overload. YouTube warns that network disruption can break a stream. For local operation, a UPS for the computer and router or a backup internet route may reduce particular risks, but neither guarantees continuity and a UPS does not fix an internet outage.

5. Test privately before going public
- Start OBS and confirm that Live Control Room receives the signal and displays a preview.
- Check the stream’s watch page, audio level, video, scene changes and playlist behavior. Use a private or unlisted test where appropriate.
- Check playback on a phone as well as the computer, and confirm the stream is reachable in the way your intended audience will access it.
- Keep monitoring the preview and stream health. Arrange periodic checks or alerts so you can notice silence, a frozen visual, a stopped playlist or a dropped connection.
- Only after the test works should you begin the public broadcast.
6. Plan for a day-long broadcast and its replay
YouTube’s encoder help says that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous 24-hour broadcast is outside that stated window, so do not assume YouTube will retain the entire day as one replay. If the replay matters, consider dividing the day into sessions shorter than 12 hours and/or recording a separate copy locally. Test the exact schedule and verify the resulting archive behavior on your channel before relying on it.
A 24/7 stream also needs a recovery plan: decide who will notice if OBS, the computer, power or the network stops, and how the stream will be restarted. A single local OBS setup depends on the machine and connection at that location remaining available.

Music rights and YouTube rules for an India-based stream
YouTube’s live-stream terms put responsibility on the creator: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” The terms also require creators to meet applicable territory-specific regulatory requirements.
For an India-based channel, the practical question is whether your rights actually cover public live retransmission of each track for the territories where viewers may watch, as well as any saved recording. The available guidance does not identify which Indian licenses apply to a particular catalog, venue, recording or business model. Get advice appropriate to your use rather than assuming that attribution or a consumer listening subscription is sufficient.

Will my 24-hour YouTube live stream be saved?
Not reliably as one complete replay based on YouTube’s stated archive rule. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that statement does not establish what will happen to a continuous 24-hour stream. To preserve a replay, split the broadcast into shorter sessions and/or make a separate recording, then verify the result in your channel before launch.
Monetization: what a continuous stream does and does not guarantee
YouTube identifies live ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible features, subject to channel eligibility and settings. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. Being live continuously does not by itself guarantee views, monetization eligibility or revenue.
