Which software should you use?
OBS Studio is a free, open-source application for composing scenes, playing media, encoding, recording, and streaming. Its official Help Portal says it has no watermark or usage limitations and can be used commercially (OBS Help Portal). The project repository specifies GPLv2 or later (OBS Studio project repository).
For this job, the choice depends on whether you want one video to repeat or several clips to play in sequence:

OBS documents Media Source availability on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its documentation also lists supported local video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. For the Media Source controls and VLC-source requirements, see OBS Media Sources (documentation dated 2022-01-11).

Before you stream: check the footage rights
A video being publicly viewable on YouTube does not mean you may rebroadcast it. You generally need rights to both the footage and any accompanying audio. YouTube describes possible reuse routes such as getting permission, using material under a Creative Commons license, relying on public-domain status, or using an applicable copyright exception; it cautions that none of these routes guarantees avoiding a copyright claim or Content ID match. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance and verify the rights for the specific video and audio before streaming.
YouTube allows a creator to choose its Creative Commons Attribution license only when the work is licensable under CC BY. Reusers must give attribution under that license. A displayed license does not establish that the uploader cleared every element in the video, such as music, stock footage, or embedded material. See YouTube’s license types, and keep attribution details if the applicable license requires them.

Set up OBS to loop one nature video
- Create a scene. In OBS, add or select a scene for the live video. A scene is where you compose the sources that appear in the stream.
- Add the file. In the Sources panel, choose + and select Media Source. Create a new source, give it a recognizable name, and select the local video file.
- Enable looping. In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop, then confirm the changes. The file should restart when playback reaches its end.
- Fit the picture to the scene. Select the source in the preview and adjust its size and position to fill the canvas as intended. Check the preview for black bars, cropping, or unwanted empty space.
- Connect OBS to YouTube Live. Configure the stream destination and stream key using YouTube’s current live setup flow and the corresponding OBS streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not share it or include it in a recording or screenshot.
- Check playback and start the stream. Confirm the video is moving and looping as expected in OBS, then start streaming. Check YouTube’s live interface to confirm the stream is received.
Media Source properties also include restart-on-activation, hardware decoding where available, playback speed, and behavior when a file ends. These are useful for scene and playback control, but their presence does not establish that a particular computer can stream continuously without problems.
Set up a playlist for several nature videos
- Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC being installed. If your OBS installation is 64-bit, OBS says to install 64-bit VLC.
- Add the source. In the scene’s Sources panel, choose + and select VLC Video. If that source is unavailable, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS.
- Build the playlist. Add the local video files you want to play in sequence to the source’s playlist.
- Keep the playlist looping. Check that Loop Playlist is enabled. OBS documentation says this setting is enabled by default, but it is worth confirming in the source properties.
- Check the scene and stream. Verify the playlist appears correctly in the OBS preview, then follow the YouTube connection and stream-key steps above. Confirm the stream is received in YouTube’s live interface.

What to check if playback or streaming fails
- The VLC Video source is missing: install VLC. If OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC as specified in OBS’s documentation.
- The single video stops at the end: open the Media Source properties and make sure Loop is enabled.
- The playlist ends instead of repeating: inspect the VLC Video source properties and enable Loop Playlist.
- The video is not visible as expected: inspect the source in the preview, check its size and position, and verify that the correct local file is selected.
- YouTube does not receive the live stream: check the destination and stream key configured in OBS against the current YouTube live setup. The available documentation here does not establish current account eligibility rules or validated encoder settings.
- The stream is interrupted or the computer struggles: the source documentation does not guarantee uninterrupted operation or establish performance for a particular machine. Check that computer’s resources and connection, and test the complete workflow before relying on it for a long broadcast.
- You receive a copyright claim: confirm that you have rights to both the footage and audio. Public availability alone is not permission, and even a plausible reuse basis does not guarantee avoiding a claim.
