There is no bitrate that works for every Indian broadband connection. For a conventional H.264 YouTube Live stream, use YouTube’s recommended bitrate for your chosen resolution and frame rate, then confirm that your actual upload connection can sustain it reliably. YouTube recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, 14 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps, 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps and 8 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps. These are platform recommendations, not guarantees about any ISP plan or individual connection.
Choose a bitrate for your resolution and frame rate
YouTube’s live-encoder guide lists the following H.264 recommendations. They describe the video upload bitrate sent to YouTube, not the download speed advertised by your broadband provider. The guide’s recommendations were checked on October 3, 2026; YouTube’s captured page does not state a publication year. YouTube Help: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
| Output resolution and frame rate | YouTube H.264 recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 14 Mbps |
These recommendations are useful starting points, not a claim that a plan marketed at a particular speed can continuously deliver that upload rate to YouTube. The connection, route, congestion and other household traffic all matter. If the upload is unstable at the target, choose a lower bitrate and, if necessary, lower the resolution or frame rate rather than treating a brief speed-test result as proof of 24/7 capacity.
Set OBS and YouTube for a representative test
Use a compatible encoder configuration
For a broadly compatible baseline, use H.264 video, CBR (constant bitrate), and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, supports frame rates up to 60 fps, and recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. YouTube says not to exceed a four-second keyframe interval. Match the bitrate to the selected output resolution and frame rate using the table above. YouTube’s encoder settings guide.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Test the actual upload path
- Connect the streaming computer to the router using Ethernet where practical. OBS warns that Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming and recommends a wired connection. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable can connect a nearby PC and router, but a cable cannot fix ISP congestion or a poor route to YouTube.
- Run an upload speed test on that computer and network. YouTube specifically recommends testing upload bitrate; download speed alone does not establish what the encoder can send upstream.
- As a cautious starting point, OBS Project suggests setting bitrate to 75% of total upload speed. This is guidance from its troubleshooting page dated September 30, 2024—not a guarantee against jitter, congestion, routing issues or long-term outages. OBS Project: Dropped Frames and General Connection Issues.
- Set the OBS bitrate and stream to YouTube with movement and audio resembling the content you intend to broadcast. Test at the time of day and under the household/network load expected during operation; a test during quiet hours may not represent a busy evening.
- Watch OBS’s dropped-frame indicator and YouTube’s stream health while the test runs. If the intended quality produces instability, reduce bitrate and retest. A stable short test is informative, but cannot establish that the ISP, power or route will remain uninterrupted indefinitely.
Read the symptoms, not just the speed-test number
Dropped frames in OBS
OBS says dropped frames indicate that the connection may be unstable or unable to keep up with the configured bitrate. Lower the bitrate and test again. If possible, use Ethernet; also investigate network equipment, VPN or security software, other software competing for network capacity, and ISP-side routing or congestion. If the streaming service offers a different server, OBS suggests trying it. Dynamic bitrate can lower quality to manage congestion, but OBS cautions that it does not resolve the underlying connection problem.
Stream reaches YouTube, but viewers struggle
Broadcaster-side stability and viewer playback are separate issues. YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats, while viewers still have different devices and network conditions. OBS notes that a lower bitrate may make a stream accessible to a broader audience; consider that trade-off when choosing quality, rather than optimizing only for the strongest viewer connection. YouTube Help: Live stream transcoding.

What Indian broadband can—and cannot—tell you
“Indian broadband” does not specify your city, ISP, plan, Wi-Fi or Ethernet setup, competing household uploads, or the quality of your route to YouTube ingest. Broad fixed-broadband context from TRAI cannot determine the sustained upload bitrate available to a particular creator. No suitable published statistic establishes sustained Indian broadband upload performance specifically to YouTube ingest, so a national number would not answer the practical question. Test your own connection and validate it during representative busy periods.
For a 24/7 broadcast, no bitrate by itself guarantees uninterrupted uptime. A successful test can show whether your current setup sustains the chosen stream at that time; it cannot guarantee future ISP service, routing or power continuity. Monitor stream health after launch.
