Be explicit: a Super Chat is an optional paid YouTube fan-funding feature that highlights a viewer’s message in live chat—not a charitable donation, a required ticket to participate, or a promise of a particular response. If your stream is raising money for a cause, use YouTube Giving’s Live Chat Donations and explain that separately.
What viewers are paying for
A Super Chat is a paid message highlighted in live chat; a Super Sticker is a paid animated image that appears there. YouTube describes both as fan-funding features and states that they are not crowdfunding or donation tools. See YouTube’s Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility, availability, and policies.
That distinction matters when you invite a purchase. Call it a paid message or fan-funding feature, and describe its actual function. Do not say or imply that a creator-directed Super Chat is a charitable donation, that all of its proceeds go to a cause, or that paying is necessary to join the conversation.
How to invite Super Chats without pressure
Use plain language that makes the purchase optional and explains what it does. For example:

If you’d like to support the stream, you can optionally send a Super Chat. It highlights your message in live chat. It’s a paid YouTube fan-funding feature, not a charitable donation, and you’re welcome to join the conversation without buying one.
YouTube’s Super Chat and Super Stickers tips recommend thanking contributors and encouraging conversation, including inviting fans to use Supers to ask questions or share thoughts. You can acknowledge a purchase graciously, but do not suggest it guarantees a reply or special treatment unless you have clearly defined that offer and can honor it.

Before you make the ask
- Say what the feature does: it highlights a paid message in live chat.
- Say that buying is optional; viewers can participate in the conversation without paying.
- Do not label a Super Chat a donation or claim money is earmarked for charity.
- Do not promise a particular response, outcome, or benefit unless you have actually established and can deliver it.
If the stream is raising money for charity
Use YouTube Giving’s Live Chat Donations for charitable contributions and identify that feature clearly. Donations through the fundraiser are distinct from Supers. YouTube says Super Chat and Super Stickers are unavailable on live streams with Live Chat Donations to avoid confusion; they cannot be offered alongside those donations on the same stream. This stream is using YouTube Giving’s Live Chat Donations for the fundraiser. Those donations go through the fundraiser feature; Super Chats are a separate paid fan-funding feature and are turned off on this stream.

Do not blur the two features by describing a Super Chat as a charitable contribution or implying that its proceeds go to the fundraiser. If you are discussing how funds are handled, describe only what you know to be true about the fundraiser.
Check that Supers are available on your stream
Supers are conditional on channel eligibility and stream eligibility. YouTube’s requirements include meeting applicable fan-funding and YouTube Partner Program terms, accepting the Commerce Product Module terms, being at least 18, and living in a supported region. Check your channel’s current status in YouTube Studio before asking viewers to use the feature; eligibility and availability can change. The relevant requirements are set out in YouTube’s eligibility and availability guidance and its Commerce Products monetization policies.

YouTube lists these stream or video cases as ineligible for Supers:
- Age-restricted, unlisted, or private videos.
- Made-for-kids videos.
- Videos with YouTube Giving fundraisers.
- Streams with live chat or comments turned off.
YouTube also says creators are responsible for understanding and complying with applicable laws, including rules about offering or receiving money through Supers. Legal and tax treatment can vary by jurisdiction; the platform guidance does not establish a universal legal or tax answer.

What the creator revenue figure means
YouTube Help says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees are deducted. YouTube currently says it covers transaction costs, including credit-card fees. This is YouTube’s platform statement, not a guarantee of a fixed net amount for every purchase. You can view purchase activity and moderate Supers as you do other live-chat messages. Keep any public explanation of earnings aligned with what you can verify; do not turn the revenue-share figure into a promise about a particular viewer’s purchase.
