Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To loop multiple local videos in an OBS broadcast, add them to a VLC Video Source, enable Loop Playlist, then send OBS to YouTube using the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. The VLC source requires VLC to be installed; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. YouTube’s own playlist loop repeats videos for a viewer—it does not supply a playlist to your live broadcast.
Choose the right OBS source
| OBS source | Best for | Loop behavior | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Media Source | Repeating one file | Its Loop setting repeats that file. | VLC is not required for the built-in source. |
| VLC Video Source | Playing multiple local files as a playlist | Enable Loop Playlist. Shuffle Playlist controls whether playback order is randomized; it is Off by default. | VLC must be installed. With 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC. |
OBS describes VLC Video Source as using VLC libraries for media support beyond the built-in Media Source. If that source is unavailable, check the VLC installation and architecture before configuring the scene.
Set up a looping playlist in OBS
- Install VLC and check OBS can see it. Match the architecture: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. If OBS was already running when you installed VLC, close and reopen OBS, then look for VLC Video Source in the source-add menu.
- Add the playlist source. In the scene you intend to broadcast, select the + button in the Sources dock and choose VLC Video Source. Give the source a recognizable name and add the local video files to its playlist.
- Enable playlist looping. In the source properties, turn on Loop Playlist. Leave Shuffle Playlist off if you want files to play in their listed order.
- Check the scene and audio. Arrange and size the source in the scene. Confirm the video is visible and its audio is audible in the OBS mixer before sending the broadcast.
- Connect OBS to YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live and create or select the live stream. Copy the stream server URL and stream key from YouTube’s Live Control Room into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the stream key as secret: YouTube says it works like your stream’s password and address.
- Start OBS streaming and verify the preview. Send the stream from OBS, then follow the Live Control Room workflow. For a scheduled stream, wait for the YouTube preview and use Go live when ready.
- Test before a public broadcast. Use representative video motion and audio, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages before and during the broadcast.
Keep YouTube’s viewer loop separate from your live input
YouTube’s playlist loop control is for someone watching a playlist. It does not make those videos the input to an encoder-based live stream. To broadcast a repeating playlist, put the media in OBS (or another encoder workflow), configure the source to loop, and send that output to YouTube using the stream URL and key.
Troubleshoot common playlist and live-stream problems
- VLC Video Source is missing: Install VLC, make sure its architecture matches OBS (64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC), and reopen OBS to check again.
- Only one file repeats: Check whether you added the built-in Media Source. Its Loop control repeats one file; use VLC Video Source for a multi-file playlist.
- The playlist stops at the end: Open the VLC Video Source properties and check that Loop Playlist is enabled.
- Files play in an unexpected order: Check Shuffle Playlist. OBS documents it as Off by default; keep it off for listed order.
- You enabled a loop on YouTube, but there is no live show: That control repeats playback for viewers, not encoder input. Add the playlist to OBS and send OBS to YouTube Live.
- YouTube has no live preview: Verify the server URL and stream key in OBS, and confirm OBS is sending. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview before selecting Go live.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded videos without leaving a computer or OBS running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera.
