End the current stream before it reaches 12 hours, then check that YouTube has created its replay before starting a new session. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream that runs longer may not be captured at all. If the broadcast has already exceeded 12 hours, stopping it cannot guarantee a replay, and YouTube’s guidance does not describe a way to recover a missing archive.
End the current encoder stream

For a scheduled encoder stream, open YouTube Live Control Room and click End Stream as directed by YouTube. Stop sending content from the encoder. YouTube’s encoder guidance says to stop the content feed; scheduled streams may also require using the End Stream control. YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions.

In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Live and look for the ended broadcast under Live Replay. YouTube’s live-stream management guidance explains where to find live replays.

Open the replay’s details and check its Visibility setting. Change it if needed so the archive has the intended audience. YouTube says archive privacy can be changed from the content page. YouTube’s archive guidance.

What the 12-hour threshold means
YouTube Help says it can automatically archive streams under 12 hours, while a stream exceeding 12 hours “may not be captured at all.” The page does not promise that every shorter stream will be archived, so check for the replay rather than treating a duration below 12 hours as a guarantee. The page does not state a publication year.
If the broadcast has already passed 12 hours, end it and check Live Replay, but be prepared for the archive not to exist. The available YouTube guidance does not document a recovery procedure for a missing replay from an overlong session. Archive live streams.

Plan a 24/7 broadcast so sessions can be archived
Use separate sessions
For a continuous channel, end each encoder session before it reaches 12 hours, verify that the replay appears, and then start a fresh session. This is a practical way to give each replay a chance to be saved; it is not a guarantee of archiving. YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, rather than guaranteed preservation of a single, uninterrupted 24/7 event.
Keep a local recording as a separate backup
YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup. A local file gives you another copy, but it does not force YouTube to create a replay. For long sessions, check that recording is active and that the destination has enough free space; these are practical safeguards, not specific YouTube requirements. YouTube’s archive guidance.

Understand what DVR does
DVR lets viewers pause and rewind while the stream is live; it is separate from the post-stream archive. YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams over 12 hours. Turning DVR off does not prevent a recording of the entire stream from being available after the stream ends. YouTube’s DVR guidance.
