Colin Porter’s ineligibility is reported to stem from an NCAA win in a Kentucky court case, according to an Oct. 2, 2026 RotoWire update citing The Field of 68. The court order itself—and its reasoning—has not been established in the available reporting, so the precise legal basis remains unclear.
What happened to Colin Porter?
Marquette announced Porter as a transfer from Liberty for the 2026–27 season on Aug. 27, 2026. Four days later, RotoWire reported that he had been ruled ineligible for that season after the NCAA won a Kentucky court case. RotoWire attributed the update to The Field of 68; it did not provide the underlying order. RotoWire’s Oct. 2 update.
That distinction matters: the eligibility development is reported, but the precise court, order date, terms, legal reasoning and any appeal are not established by the available account. No direct Marquette or NCAA confirmation specific to Porter was identified.
What is known about the Kentucky case?
An Aug. 22 report on Kentucky litigation identified Porter as a plaintiff seeking an additional season of eligibility and said a judge had granted temporary relief to the plaintiffs. That is earlier case context, not the later order described in the Oct. 2 update. The earlier report does not establish why or how the subsequent ruling affected Porter. The Aug. 22 account.

Why Marquette’s roster still lists him as a fifth-year player
Marquette’s 2026–27 roster identifies Porter as a fifth-year guard. That roster designation describes his class standing; it does not establish that he is currently eligible to compete. The same roster lists him at 5-foot-10 and identifies Ashland, Kentucky, as his hometown. Marquette’s roster listing.
Marquette announced Porter after four seasons at Liberty, where he started all 135 games in which he appeared. For his 2025–26 Liberty season, Marquette reports averages of 11.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game, along with 35.8 percent shooting from three-point range. These are team-published season statistics, not a forecast of his production at Marquette.

Do not confuse Porter’s case with the Colorado ruling
A separate Colorado appellate decision received attention in August 2026. The Associated Press reported on Aug. 21 that the appellate ruling paused a broad eligibility order while other lawsuits remained active. That Colorado litigation is distinct from Porter’s reported Kentucky case; it does not identify the ruling affecting him or establish its terms. The Associated Press account.
