Domantas Sabonis said he found the offseason trade rumors easy to ignore, calling them “all made up.” His comments do not, however, confirm that Sacramento never discussed a trade: separate reports described exploratory conversations and a possible sign-and-trade framework, neither of which was reported as agreed or completed.
What Sabonis said about the rumors
In an interview with Eurohoops’ Johnny Askounis, Sabonis said: “Easy. It’s all made up.” He added: “I don’t know where you guys get most of it from. I’m there with Scott [Perry], with my agent, so I’m not on social media as much.” The remarks were attributed to Sabonis in an October 2, 2026 report by Sam Amico at Hoops Wire.
Sabonis was referring to the chatter he had encountered. His characterization is not an official statement from the Kings, and it does not establish whether team-to-team conversations took place.
What trade scenarios had been reported
An October 3, 2026 account by Bleacher Report summarized reports of two possible scenarios. They remain distinct from a completed transaction:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Reported scenario | What was described | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Sacramento–Charlotte | Jake Fischer reported discussions ahead of the 2026 draft about a possible Sabonis swap; the talks were described as exploratory. | Reported exploratory discussions, not a close or agreed trade. |
| Possible Detroit sign-and-trade | Fischer and Marc Stein reported Sacramento interest in a sign-and-trade arrangement that would have sent Sabonis to Detroit and brought Jalen Duren into the picture. | A reported possible framework, not confirmation of an agreement or completed deal. |
The available reports do not establish that Sacramento has ruled out a trade or settled Sabonis’s long-term future with the club. NBA.com lists Sabonis at the Kings’ September 30, 2026 Media Day, ahead of the 2026–27 season; that listing establishes his appearance, not a team decision about his future. See NBA.com.
Injury and recent season context
Hoops Wire reported that knee trouble limited Sabonis to 19 games in the prior season. The same report said he described himself as back to “100%”; that is his reported assessment, not independently verified medical clearance.

RotoWire also reported that he underwent season-ending knee surgery in February. Those figures provide context for the trade speculation, but do not establish why any team discussed a possible deal.
