John Ternus Reportedly Wants Apple to Move Faster on New Products

Apple CEO John Ternus is reportedly considering ways to speed up product development, expand the company’s device range and make its organization leaner and more engineering-focused. The proposals described by Bloomberg are plans under consideration—not confirmed policy or changes already delivered.

What is John Ternus reportedly trying to change at Apple?

Bloomberg News reported on September 29, 2026, that Ternus is weighing changes aimed at accelerating product development and broadening Apple’s lineup. The report also describes a possible leaner organization with greater emphasis on engineering. Those are reported intentions, not a public statement from Ternus or a settled company-wide plan. Bloomberg’s report says some ideas remain under consideration.

The direction would affect both how Apple organizes its work and when customers might see products. The available reporting does not name particular devices that would be added, nor does it set out a detailed timetable for organizational changes.

Could Apple move beyond its spring and fall launch cycles?

One reported possibility is relying less on the familiar spring and fall release windows and introducing products more frequently across the year. Bloomberg’s report and MacRumors’ summary describe a potential shift in cadence, but neither establishes a replacement schedule or identifies which products would launch when. MacRumors’ account attributes its details to Bloomberg.

Approach What the reporting says What is not established
Traditional cadence Apple has commonly concentrated launches around spring and fall, as described in the Bloomberg and MacRumors reports. The reports do not provide a complete historical release calendar for comparison.
Possible future cadence Apple may move toward more frequent releases distributed throughout the year, according to Bloomberg’s account as summarized by MacRumors. No exact schedule, named launch dates or product-by-product plan is stated in the cited reporting.

A more distributed cadence could mean fewer periods when launches are clustered and more frequent announcements. That is a description of the possible strategy, not evidence that Apple has adopted it or that customers will see a particular change.

What could a leaner, more engineering-focused organization mean?

Bloomberg reports that reducing some middle-management positions is among the ideas under consideration, alongside a greater focus on engineering. The report does not establish how many positions might be affected, which teams would be involved or whether any reduction has happened. It also does not provide a direct statement from Ternus describing these plans in his own words.

MacRumors says the changes could be difficult and take years, and reports employee impressions of increased pressure to develop products faster and more often. Those impressions are not a measured company-wide result, and the possibility of a multi-year transition is a caution about implementation—not proof that a reorganization is underway.

What is known—and still unknown—about the impact?

The reporting points to a strategic ambition: develop products faster, consider a broader range of devices and adjust the organization to support that work. It does not show that the proposals have improved Apple’s pace or product output. Nor does it establish whether faster launches would improve products, affect quality or change customers’ experience.

The Cult of Mac podcast listing frames the episode as a discussion of Ternus reportedly wanting to make Apple “lean and agile” and push out products faster. That wording is the listing’s summary, reproduced by MacTech—not a quote from Ternus. The listing confirms the topic framing, but it is not a full episode page or transcript, so the available information does not support claims about everything discussed in podcast 35. MacTech’s Firehose listing is the source of that episode description.
