Flood damage has disrupted passenger and freight services on the Lahore–Faisalabad railway section via Sheikhupura. The latest located service report, dated October 3, 2026, described diversions and a passenger transfer arrangement, but it is not a live operating notice. Check your exact train and travel date with Pakistan Railways before setting out.
Why the Lahore–Faisalabad rail service is disrupted
Heavy rain and flooding damaged bridge approaches and track support along the Lahore–Faisalabad section via Sheikhupura. Floodwater eroded the infrastructure and isolated the line at two bridges, including a major bridge near Qila Sattar Shah. Pakistan Railways suspended passenger and freight operations for safety, according to the railway division’s account reported by Dawn.
On August 9, 2026, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported that Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi inspected a collapsed bridge and damaged track near Misan Kallar and directed officials to prepare a feasibility report within 20 days. The report said passenger operations on the section had been suspended.
Which trains are affected, and what routes were reported?
Arrangements have changed over time, so a train’s route or departure time in an older report should not be treated as current. The following are dated reports, not a single verified schedule covering every affected service.

October 3, 2026: latest located service report
ProPakistani reported that the Karachi-bound Karakoram Express would leave Lahore at 3 pm via Sahiwal. It said Karakoram passengers would be accommodated on the Mianwali Express departing Faisalabad at 5:50 pm, and the Lahore–Sargodha Mianwali Express would be rerouted via Wazirabad and Lalamusa. The report also noted that other schedules could be affected.
August 10, 2026: minister’s account reported by Dawn
Dawn reported that trains heading south via Faisalabad had been routed through Sahiwal and Khanewal on Main Line 1, with other local-route arrangements for Faisalabad-bound trains.

July 28, 2026: earlier diversions and cancellations
The Express Tribune reported that Karakoram and Shalimar Express trains would operate via Raiwind, Sahiwal and Khanewal instead of the Faisalabad route. Passengers travelling on the Faisalabad segment of the Karachi-bound Karakoram Express were to be accommodated on Millat Express; Mianwali Express was to run via Wazirabad and Lala Musa; and Badr Express and Ghauri Express were temporarily cancelled. These were the arrangements reported at that time and should not be assumed to remain in force.
How to check your train before travelling
- Look up your service and journey date using Pakistan Railways’ Train Timings and Plan Journey pages. These are official lookup tools, but their pages do not by themselves establish closure-specific status.
- Confirm directly with Pakistan Railways whether your booked train is operating, diverted or cancelled on your travel date.
- If a report mentions a transfer or replacement service, confirm that the arrangement applies to your ticket and ask which station and departure time to use.
- Recheck close to departure. A dated report may no longer reflect the operating plan.
When comparing an alternative, verify the notice date and source, the route and stations served, the departure time, and whether the railway has confirmed that your ticket is covered. The October 3 report is the latest located service update here, not a guarantee of the current schedule.

When is the Lahore–Faisalabad railway track expected to reopen?
The restoration estimate changed as officials assessed the damage. On August 2, 2026, Dawn reported an earlier expectation of at least one month. In Dawn’s August 10 report, Minister Hanif Abbasi said rebuilding a bridge and a portion of track would take around four months, after a feasibility report expected to take at least 20 days. That later figure is an attributed forecast, not a confirmed reopening date. The reports do not establish that the line has reopened.
