Polybags Direct says buyers are weighing material composition, cost and compliance alongside fit and performance when choosing flexible packaging. Its October 3, 2026 announcement also cites forecasts for market growth, but those figures are projections—not evidence that future growth has already occurred.

The Leicester-based UK supplier, which says it has more than 30 years in the packaging market, describes a broader set of considerations in business packaging purchases: what a bag is made from, how much it costs and whether relevant rules apply, as well as whether it suits the product and packing process. This is the company’s market view; the announcement does not provide buyer-survey results, market-share data or another quantified measure of changing demand.
A Polybags Direct representative said: “Businesses need packaging that performs reliably, but they also need to consider size, thickness, application, quantities, cost and increasingly the regulatory environment. How to choose a bag for the job
Start with the item and packing process, then compare product specifications rather than treating “poly bag” as one interchangeable product. Polybags Direct’s announcement names size, thickness, application, quantities and cost as selection factors. What size poly bag do I need?
Measure the item and consider how it will enter and sit inside the bag, including any closure or packing allowance. What thickness should a poly bag be?

Which packaging is suitable for food?
Do not rely on a general category label alone. Confirm that the particular bag is documented as suitable for the intended food-contact use and check any conditions or limitations in its specification. Polybags Direct lists food-safe bags, but the announcement does not provide product-specific certificates or technical details.

For example, resealable polyethylene bags may suit a task where repeated opening and closing is useful; mailing bags, garment covers and vacuum pouches address different packing needs. Choose by the intended use and verify the exact material, dimensions, closure, performance and documentation for the product being ordered. The announcement says samples are available for selected products, without identifying the selection or technical limits.

Polybags Direct’s announcement attributes a forecast to Fortune Business Insights that values the global flexible plastic packaging market at approximately £133.5 billion in 2026 and around £214 billion by 2034, at a 6.08% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). The announcement says the GBP figures use an approximate USD-to-GBP conversion of 0.758. These are attributed estimates, not measured future results.

UK Plastic Packaging Tax: verify current rules
Polybags Direct’s announcement reports that the UK Plastic Packaging Tax applies to finished plastic packaging components with less than 30% recycled plastic, gives a rate of £228.82 per tonne from April 2026, and says businesses manufacturing or importing at least 10 tonnes of relevant packaging in the applicable period may have registration and reporting obligations.
