The NTSB’s preliminary recorder summary describes a fast touchdown and braking sequence, but the investigation remains open and has not established a cause.
What happened in Miami
The aircraft was 21 Air LLC Flight 7598, a Part 121 cargo service operated on behalf of Amazon. It was flying from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Miami when it overran Runway 30 at Miami International Airport. The NTSB lists the investigation as ongoing: NTSB investigation page.
That distinction matters: this was an Amazon cargo flight, but the NTSB identifies 21 Air as the operator. The Associated Press reported that five people were killed. AP’s Oct. 1 report describes the preliminary account; the casualty figure is not a broader aviation-safety statistic.
What the preliminary flight-data recorder shows
The NTSB says the flight data recorder captured approximately 54 hours of data across more than 400 parameters. Its preliminary summary reports these groundspeeds during the landing sequence:

These are recorder observations reported by the NTSB, not by themselves a complete explanation of the aircraft’s performance or the overrun. The agency also said its preliminary data showed no indication that speed brakes or thrust reversers were deployed. The NTSB update cautions that recorder information is preliminary and subject to change.
What the cockpit voice recorder captured
The NTSB reports that the cockpit voice recorder contained more than two hours of good-quality audio across four channels. In selected events, a pilot cautioned that the aircraft was too fast about 1 minute 42 seconds before the recording ended; further comments about excessive speed followed without a consistent verbal response. A pilot called for a go-around about 15 seconds before the recording ended.

The CVR and FDR timelines have not been precisely synchronized, according to the NTSB. The audio events and flight-data values therefore should not be read as a single, exact second-by-second sequence.
The preliminary FDR summary says the brakes were later released as the throttles increased to a value consistent with go-around thrust, then the throttles returned to idle and the brakes were reapplied. This describes recorded control inputs; it does not establish why they occurred or determine what caused the overrun.

What is known about the wind information
AP reported that the preliminary report said the air traffic controller did not give the flight wind information, and that the controller had given another aircraft a wind advisory four minutes earlier. This is a reported preliminary detail, not evidence by itself that the omission caused or contributed to the accident. The NTSB has not published a final probable cause. Its investigation is ongoing, and the recorder information is explicitly preliminary. The final interpretation of the data—and whether the reported wind-information detail is assessed as causal or contributing—has not been established in the cited material.
