A teacher identified in contemporaneous reports as assistant principal Nery Edith Narváez González was killed and three other people were injured in a knife attack at a secondary school in Torreón, Coahuila, on October 1, 2026. Reports say two 18-year-old brothers and former students were detained as alleged attackers. Investigators have not publicly established a final motive or court findings in the sources reviewed.
What happened at the school in Torreón?
The attack took place on Thursday, October 1, at a secondary school in ejido La Unión, Torreón, in the Mexican state of Coahuila. Mexico’s Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) confirmed the death of a teacher at a secondary school in that location. SEP’s October 1 statement did not give the school’s number or name the teacher.
Contemporaneous reporting identified the school as Escuela Secundaria Técnica No. 13. Noticias C21 reported that the alleged attackers entered the school and attacked people there; Agence France-Presse (AFP), republished by The Standard on October 2, described the weapon as a knife.
Who was killed, and how many people were injured?
SEP confirmed that a teacher died. AFP described the victim as a female assistant principal, while Noticias C21 identified her as Nery Edith Narváez González, the morning-shift deputy director. Those details come from media reports, not from the SEP statement.
