American Express Canada is raising the annual fee on its personal and Business Aeroplan Reserve cards from $599 to $799. Existing cardmembers will see the higher fee on their first annual-fee billing date after January 12, 2027—not automatically on that date. Air Canada says refreshed Canadian Aeroplan card benefits begin January 12, 2027, with different benefits by card tier.
Which Aeroplan card fees are changing?
American Express Canada’s September 29, 2026 announcement specifies the following Reserve-card fee changes:
| Card | Current annual fee | New annual fee | When the new fee applies |
|---|---|---|---|
| American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card | $599 | $799 | The cardmember’s first annual-fee billing date after January 12, 2027 |
| American Express Aeroplan Business Reserve Card | $599 | $799 | The cardmember’s first annual-fee billing date after January 12, 2027 |
The increase is $200 per year. January 12 is the start date Air Canada gives for the refreshed card benefits; it is not the date every existing Reserve cardmember is charged the new annual fee.
The announcement covers American Express Canada cards. It does not establish fee increases for Aeroplan cards issued by TD or CIBC. Air Canada says issuers will communicate separately about changes to cardholder agreements, so check the notice and terms from your own issuer rather than assuming the Amex change applies across the Aeroplan portfolio.

What changes with the Aeroplan rewards?
15% off eligible Air Canada flight rewards
Air Canada describes a 15% reduction in the base fare portion of eligible Air Canada flight rewards. The comparison is with the points required for the same itinerary when booked by a member without a card. The primary cardholder must sign in to Aeroplan to see the discount. Taxes, fees, surcharges and other charges are not discounted, so the total points-and-cash cost will not necessarily fall by 15%.
Air Canada also describes a 15% flight-reward promotion for bookings through January 11, 2027. That is a temporary offer with an end date; the refreshed portfolio’s scheduled benefit starts January 12, 2027. Check the offer terms when booking, and do not treat the temporary booking window as the start date for the ongoing benefit.

Fourth-night hotel and fourth-day car-rental rewards
For qualifying bookings of at least four consecutive nights with participating hotel providers, or four consecutive rental days with participating rental providers, Air Canada says the points required are reduced by an amount equal to the average points cost of one night or rental day in that booking. The value is realized in points on eligible reward bookings, not as a cash rebate. Whether it helps depends on your travel plans, participating providers and reward availability.
Wallet credit for cash flights
The Air Canada Flight Benefit in the AC Wallet is separate from the flight-reward discount. It can be used toward eligible cash flight bookings, not flight rewards. Each issued credit is valid for six months, according to Air Canada.

Benefits vary by card tier
Air Canada’s Canadian Aeroplan card tier chart distinguishes Premium, Core and Entry cards. The table below summarizes the listed wallet and airport-access benefits alongside the flight-reward and hotel and car-rental reward benefits.
| Tier in Air Canada’s chart | Annual Air Canada wallet benefit | Maple Leaf Lounge access | Priority security | Flight-reward and hotel/rental reward benefits |
|---|---|---|---|---|

Air Canada’s tier chart lists the flight-reward saving and fourth-night/fourth-day reward benefits for all three tiers. That does not make the other benefits universal: lounge access, priority security and wallet credit differ by tier.

What the Reserve announcements list
Personal Aeroplan Reserve
For the personal Reserve card, American Express Canada lists up to $100 annually toward Air Canada travel in the AC Wallet; the 15% Air Canada flight-reward saving; expanded worldwide Maple Leaf Lounge access; up to six complimentary Priority Pass lounge passes per year; and eight complimentary passes at select Aspire Amex lounges in Canada. It also lists priority security at select airports for the cardmember and up to eight companions on the same reservation, a spend-based 10% bonus-points structure, a $200 annual dining credit at eligible participating Air Canada’s Best New Restaurants, and the fourth-night hotel and fourth-day rental reward benefits.
Business Aeroplan Reserve
The Business Reserve announcement lists up to $100 annually in Air Canada wallet credit, 15% Air Canada flight-reward savings, expanded lounge access, priority security at select airports, and the fourth-night hotel and fourth-day rental reward benefits. It does not list the personal Reserve card’s dining credit or spend-based bonus-points structure for the Business Reserve, so do not assume those features apply. Use the Business card’s own current terms to confirm the benefits relevant to your account.

How to judge whether the $200 increase is worth it
There is no universal break-even figure in the announced benefits. The issuer announcement does not provide an independent estimate of how much cardholders will get back, and the value depends on benefits you actually use. Before renewal, compare the cost increase with your own expected use:
- Eligible flight rewards: Estimate the points you would spend on Air Canada flight-reward base fares and whether the discount changes trips you would book anyway. It does not discount the associated taxes, fees, surcharges or other charges.
- Wallet credit: Count only the AC Wallet credit you can use toward cash Air Canada flights within its six-month validity period. It cannot offset a flight reward.
- Airport access: Consider how often you would use the lounge passes, worldwide Maple Leaf Lounge access or priority security that apply to your card. A benefit has little practical value if your routes, airports or travel companions do not fit its terms.
- Personal-card extras: For the personal Reserve, assess whether you can use the eligible dining credit and whether your spending qualifies for the announced bonus-points structure. Do not count these as Business Reserve benefits unless its terms confirm them.
- Reward stays and rentals: Include the fourth-night or fourth-day benefit only if you are likely to book qualifying consecutive reward stays or rentals through participating providers.
Compare benefits against the $200 increase rather than adding every advertised maximum together: wallet credits, dining, lounge access and reward savings have different eligibility rules, and not every cardmember will use all of them. Your renewal decision also depends on your current card’s benefits and the terms your issuer sends you.
What is and is not confirmed about other Aeroplan cards?
The Amex announcement covers five American Express Aeroplan cards overall and says enhancements are also planned for an invite-only American Express Air Canada card, with details to be sent directly to cardmembers. Air Canada’s portfolio chart describes benefits by tier, but the confirmed $599-to-$799 fee change in the announcement is for the two Amex Reserve cards. It is not evidence of a matching TD or CIBC fee change.
