The calculation annualizes the latest located declared quarterly dividend, approximately $0.278125 per depositary share, to $1.1125 and divides by $15.31. That is a dated market-price calculation—not Regions’ stated dividend rate, a fixed return, or a promise that future dividends will be declared.
What does Regions Financial’s 7.2% preferred yield mean?
The yield estimate describes Regions Financial Corporation’s Series E preferred depositary shares. The company identifies the underlying security as 4.45% non-cumulative perpetual preferred stock; its SEC filing lists the symbol as RF PRE, while market-data services commonly display RF.PRE.
The 7%-plus figure is an indicative current yield, calculated from the annualized dividend divided by the share’s market price. It is not the security’s stated 4.45% rate. Regions’ July 15, 2026 dividend declaration set a quarterly dividend of $11.125 per Series E preferred share, equivalent to approximately $0.278125 per depositary share. Annualizing the depositary-share amount gives $1.1125. Stock Analysis, citing S&P Global Market Intelligence price data, reported a $15.31 close on Oct. 1, 2026.
| Input | Value | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Latest located declared quarterly dividend | Approximately $0.278125 per depositary share | Regions declaration dated July 15, 2026; payable Sept. 15, 2026 |
| Annualized dividend used | $1.1125 | $0.278125 × 4; an annualization, not a guarantee of four future payments |
| Market price used | $15.31 | Reported Oct. 1, 2026 close; Stock Analysis price history, data attributed to S&P Global Market Intelligence |
| Indicative current yield | About 7.27% | $1.1125 ÷ $15.31; calculated, not quoted by Regions |
Why the yield differs from the stated rate
The $25 liquidation preference is the reference amount behind the security’s stated 4.45% rate. The reported market price was below that preference, so the annualized dividend divided by the lower purchase price produced a higher current-yield percentage. This arithmetic does not mean the dividend rate reset to 7.27%, nor does it establish that the market price will rise to $25.

How Series E dividends and redemption work
Dividends are non-cumulative and declared quarterly
Series E dividends are payable quarterly in arrears if declared. Because the shares are non-cumulative, an omitted dividend does not automatically accrue as an amount Regions must pay later. The July 15 declaration is the latest one located for this article; it should not be read as a commitment to declare subsequent quarterly dividends.
The security has no stated maturity
Series E is perpetual, with no stated maturity date. Redemption is at Regions’ option and is subject to regulatory approval and the applicable filing’s terms. A trading price below the $25 liquidation preference is not evidence that the issuer must redeem the shares at $25, or that an investor will recover that amount by a particular date. The specific Series E provisions and subsequent issuer disclosures govern.

What Regions’ Q2 2026 results say—and do not say—about dividend support
Regions reported second-quarter 2026 net earnings of $549 million and diluted earnings per share of $0.64. On an adjusted basis, it reported earnings of $583 million and adjusted diluted EPS of $0.68. These are distinct measures: adjusted results should not be confused with the unadjusted figures.
The company also reported a 10.7% common equity tier 1 (CET1) capital ratio, or 9.5% inclusive of accumulated other comprehensive income (AOCI). Those figures offer earnings and capital context, but they do not guarantee payment of a preferred dividend. A judgment about resilience needs more than one quarter’s earnings and capital ratios; credit quality, deposits, liquidity, regulatory capital, and later results also matter. The figures cited here alone do not establish that the dividend is risk-free or sustainable under every set of conditions.

What can change the return for an investor?
- Market price: If the declared dividend stays unchanged, a lower purchase price raises the calculated current yield and a higher price lowers it. The price can also change the investor’s gain or loss if the shares are sold.
- Future declarations: The board’s declaration policy and Regions’ ability to pay remain relevant. Non-cumulative terms mean skipped dividends do not automatically build into a later claim.
- Redemption: An issuer redemption, if permitted and exercised under the filing’s conditions, can affect realized return—particularly when the market price is below the liquidation preference. Do not assume a redemption will occur.
- Comparison with other preferreds: Regions’ Series C and Series F have different terms. A useful comparison checks stated dividend rate and any reset terms, yield at a dated market price, cumulative status, call provisions, price versus liquidation preference, and issuer earnings and capital. Their yields are not interchangeable with Series E’s.
Sources and date limits
Security terms and the July 2026 dividend declaration are reported in Regions Financial Corporation’s July 15, 2026 dividend announcement and its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Q2 financial results are from Regions’ quarterly investor information. The Oct. 1 closing price is from Stock Analysis price history, which attributes the data to S&P Global Market Intelligence. The yield calculation is therefore a snapshot based on a declared dividend and a secondary-source closing price, not a live quote. Both the latest declaration and market price can change.
