When a Galaxy app reloads after you switch away, Android may have ended its background process, the app may have rebuilt its screen, or only its content may have refreshed. Samsung’s sleeping-app controls can also limit background activity. The symptom alone does not identify the cause, so check which apps are affected and what, exactly, returns in a changed state.
Why can a Galaxy app reload after you leave it?
Switching apps changes what Android considers active. An app that is no longer in the foreground may remain cached so it can resume quickly, but Android can terminate cached processes when system resources are needed for foreground or visible work. When you return, the app may have to recreate its process or screen. Android describes this lifecycle and process management in its activity lifecycle and process lifecycle documentation.
Samsung also offers background-usage controls that can place apps in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps based on usage. Those settings can affect how an app behaves while it is not in use; Samsung explains them in its background usage limits guidance.
A reload by itself does not tell you which mechanism was involved. It is also not enough to conclude that the phone has a general software defect.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What does “reload” mean in your case?
These observations describe different outcomes and help narrow down what to report. They do not prove a cause on their own.
| What you see | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| A webpage or feed refreshes, but the app stays open | Content refreshed; that is different from the entire app session restarting. |
| The app returns to its start screen or loses the screen you were using | The app’s screen or state was not restored as you expected. Android’s lifecycle documentation explains why apps need to manage state across activity changes. |
| The app appears to start from scratch | A process or session may have been recreated, but appearance alone cannot establish why. |
How to check whether Samsung’s sleep settings are involved
- Open Settings and find Battery or Battery and device care, depending on your Galaxy model and software version.
- Open Background usage limits.
- Check Sleeping apps and Deep sleeping apps for the affected app.
- If you want to test whether sleep restrictions are contributing, consider adding that app to Never sleeping apps, if the option is available on your device. Then switch away and back under the same conditions and see whether the behavior changes.
Samsung’s menu labels and their availability can vary by model and software version. Changing the sleep setting is a check, not proof that it was the cause; it may also allow the app to use more background activity.

How to narrow down the cause
- If only one app is affected: Note its name and the exact screen, form, message, or other work that is lost. App-specific state restoration can differ, so one app behaving this way does not establish that Android or Samsung is affecting every app.
- If several unrelated apps are affected: Record your Galaxy model, Android and One UI versions, when the behavior began, and whether it started after an update. Check each affected app’s sleeping status rather than assuming they share one cause.
- If it happens only after a delay: Note roughly how long you were away before returning. Android can manage cached processes over time, but timing alone cannot identify what triggered a process change.
- If only online content changes: Record whether the app itself remained on the same screen while a webpage, feed, or other content refreshed.
Do not use a single memory reading as proof that memory management did—or did not—cause the reload. Android’s process guidance describes system behavior, not a simple free-memory threshold that diagnoses this symptom.
What is known about reports after updates?
A Samsung Community thread describes one Galaxy S24 Ultra owner reporting apps restarting after returning from Recent Apps, including messaging, social, and browser apps. That is an individual report, not confirmation of a widespread bug or proof that a One UI update caused the behavior. See the community report.
