Beed MP Bajrang Sonwane alleged that mobile phones were being used inside Beed District Jail to hatch political conspiracies, including an effort to frame his son. Jail authorities rejected the claim as baseless and cited surveillance and calling restrictions. The October 3, 2026, report by Hindustan Times, carrying PTI reporting, does not independently establish whether unauthorized calls were made.
What Sonwane alleged
At a press conference on Thursday, Sonwane claimed that phones were being “rampantly used” inside the prison and that political conspiracies were being hatched “from behind bars.” His specific allegation was that Walmik Karad, lodged at Beed District Jail and described in the report as a key accused in the murder of Massajog sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, was calling from prison to frame Sonwane’s son, Saurabh Sonwane, in a criminal case.
Sonwane played what he described as an old audio recording in support of his claim. The report does not authenticate the recording or independently verify that it captures a call made from the jail.
How prison authorities responded
Prison authorities rejected Sonwane’s allegations and said two prior high-level inquiries had found no irregularities in jail operations. The report does not include the inquiry documents or describe their methods, so their findings cannot be assessed from the published account alone.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Beed District Jail Superintendent Rajaram Chandane said: “The allegations are devoid of facts. Inquiries have already taken place into this matter, and we are ready to face any further probe. The entire facility is under CCTV coverage.”

- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
| Measure | Officials’ account |
|---|---|
| CCTV coverage | 106 cameras across the jail, according to authorities. |
| Barrack No. 9 monitoring | Karad’s barrack is monitored around the clock by 8 to 12 high-tech cameras, officials said. |
| Barrack population | Officials said a barrack houses 50 to 55 inmates, a condition they said makes unauthorized calls “practically impossible.” |
| Calling-booth supervision | An officer and two staff members oversee the booths, according to officials. |
| Permitted calls | Inmates may call three police-verified relatives for 10 minutes per call, three times a week, officials said. |
| Calling terminals | An official said 90 percent of the calling system had been upgraded to Android-based terminals that block multi-party conference calls. |
Officials said the conference-call block addresses an earlier loophole in which relatives could connect third parties to an inmate’s call. The report does not provide an independent technical inspection of the upgraded system.

The report establishes that Sonwane made the allegation and that prison authorities denied it while describing surveillance, supervised booths and call limits. It does not provide independent corroboration of calls from the jail, authentication of the audio recording, or the underlying reports from the two inquiries. The competing accounts therefore remain attributed claims in the available report, rather than a verified finding about whether unauthorized phone use occurred.
