Andover lists digitally controlled direct drive, three record speeds, optical start and end-of-record operation, and an adjustable tonearm. Those details may appeal to listeners who want setup flexibility, but buyers still need a phono stage or compatible system, amplification, and speakers.
What makes the Andover-One DD stand out on paper?
Andover Audio positions the DD as a conventional component turntable with several adjustment and automation features often worth checking when comparing decks. Its published specifications include a factory-installed Audio-Technica AT-VM520xEB moving-magnet cartridge, an 8.8-inch tonearm, a removable SME-style headshell, and a 12.8-pound total weight. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent test findings. Andover Audio’s product page lists the construction and features.
- Digitally controlled direct drive: Andover says its motor control is designed for pitch stability and low vibration. Those are the maker’s claimed benefits; the published information does not establish measured superiority over another turntable.
- Three speeds: The DD supports 33⅓, 45, and 78 RPM records. Playing 78s also requires an appropriate stylus; do not assume the supplied stylus is suitable for every 78 RPM record.
- Optical operation: Andover describes optical sensing that starts playback and stops and lifts the arm at the record’s end, without traditional mechanical contact. This is the manufacturer’s description of its implementation, not a comparative test of automation systems.
- Adjustable tonearm: Owners can adjust tracking force, anti-skating, and vertical tracking angle (VTA). The removable headshell can make cartridge changes more convenient, but compatibility and setup still depend on the cartridge and stylus chosen.
- Damped, isolated construction: The listed design includes an internally damped cast-aluminum platter, an anti-resonant silicone mat, a thick MDF plinth, and vibration-absorbing leveling feet. The materials and design are specified by Andover; no independent measurements of resonance or audible effect are established here.
What do the published specifications tell you?
Andover lists speed accuracy within 0.2% and wow and flutter below 0.15%. These figures are manufacturer specifications, not results from an independent test. They give shoppers stated targets for speed performance, but should not be treated as a head-to-head comparison with another deck unless the measurement methods and test conditions are comparable.
| Specification | Andover’s published figure or feature | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Playback speeds | 33⅓, 45, and 78 RPM | Supports three record-speed settings; 78 RPM playback requires a suitable stylus. |
| Speed accuracy | Within 0.2% | Manufacturer-published specification, not an independent measurement. |
| Wow and flutter | Below 0.15% | Manufacturer-published specification, not an independent measurement. |
| Tonearm length | 8.8 inches | Manufacturer-published specification. |
| Weight | 12.8 lb | Manufacturer-published specification. |
What else do you need to use it?
The DD is a component turntable, not a self-contained record player. Andover says it can connect to a receiver’s phono input or an external phono preamplifier. You will also need amplification and speakers unless you pair it with a compatible powered system. The DD product information does not list built-in speakers, Bluetooth, USB, or an internal phono preamp. Andover’s DD page describes the available setup options.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
One possible compact-system partner is Andover’s separate Andover-One SB powered speaker base. The company describes the SB as having a built-in phono preamp, analog and digital inputs, and Bluetooth. That does not make those features part of the DD itself; check current compatibility and availability before buying the two together. Andover’s SB page lists its features.

Yahoo Tech’s launch coverage dated October 2, 2026 reported a $999 price for the DD. That is a reported launch price, not a guarantee of current retail pricing. The phrase “average $999 deck” is a framing device, not a defined market benchmark: the available material does not survey turntables at that price or establish a representative average. A useful comparison should put the DD beside named alternatives with current prices and verified specifications. Check these points:
- Current price and included cartridge.
- Drive system and published speed-control specifications, including how figures were measured.
- Supported record speeds and the stylus needed for 78 RPM records.
- Automation details, especially whether end-of-record operation lifts the arm or only stops the platter.
- Tonearm adjustments, headshell type, and cartridge compatibility.
- Whether the system needs a separate phono stage, receiver, amplifier, and speakers.
Launch coverage from Residential Systems describes the introduction and high-level features. Neither that coverage nor the manufacturer’s specifications establish that the DD sounds better than a named rival, or that it outperforms every similarly priced turntable.
