Several major technology providers are moving toward a model that resembles Palantir’s: put engineering teams close to customers and help turn AI into working enterprise systems. But the evidence supports a growing pattern, not the headline’s claim that “everyone” is copying Palantir. Public sources reviewed here do not establish either industry-wide adoption or direct copying by the companies discussed.
What Palantir’s playbook actually involves
Palantir’s approach is more than placing engineers at a customer site. Its fiscal 2025 annual filing describes Foundry as its foundational data operations platform, AIP as its generative AI platform, and Apollo as its continuous delivery platform. The company says it builds software to integrate organizations’ data, decisions, and operations at scale. Palantir’s fiscal 2025 Form 10-K is the source for those descriptions.
In Palantir’s model, data is connected to business context; workflows and decisions are represented in a shared operational model; AI is applied within those workflows; and software can be delivered and maintained in customer environments. Palantir calls that model the Ontology. Its documentation describes connecting data, logic, actions, and security controls so people and AI agents can work across operational processes. Palantir’s Ontology overview and Palantir’s AIP overview explain the company’s product framing. These are vendor descriptions, not independent evidence that a particular customer achieved a particular outcome.
What “forward-deployed engineering” means
Forward-deployed engineering (FDE) puts technical staff close to the people and systems using a product. Instead of handing over software and leaving implementation mostly to the customer, an FDE team works alongside the customer to understand operational needs, integrate systems, and adapt or deploy software in context. Depending on the organization, that work can include building, deployment, and ongoing improvement; the label alone does not guarantee a specific scope or result.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The model can help address a common enterprise implementation problem: a capable AI system still has to fit the customer’s data, permissions, workflows, and operational constraints. Customer-facing engineers can work through those integration details directly. The trade-off is that hands-on service can require substantial staff time and close coordination, and it does not by itself establish how reusable the resulting work is or who controls the customer’s data and processes.
Which providers show a similar pattern?
Microsoft’s announced Frontier Company
On July 2, 2026, Microsoft CEO of Commercial Business Judson Althoff announced Microsoft Frontier Company, describing a $2.5 billion investment and a plan to embed 6,000 industry and engineering experts with customers to co-design, deploy, and continuously improve AI systems. These are Microsoft’s announced figures and plan, not an independently audited count of deployed teams or a measured outcome. Microsoft’s announcement includes Althoff’s characterization that the effort “goes beyond” what has been labeled FDE and would be the largest, most capable, outcome-driven engineering organization in the industry. That is Microsoft’s own comparison, not an independently verified ranking.

Microsoft, AWS, and OpenAI in industry reporting
IT Pro reports that Microsoft and AWS have internal FDE divisions and that OpenAI launched a standalone deployment consultancy intended to embed engineers in customer organizations. The report describes Palantir as an early practitioner of the approach. These examples point to wider interest in close-to-customer implementation, but reporting on similar structures does not establish that the companies adopted them because of Palantir. Read IT Pro’s account of the trend.
Claims about other AI firms
A commercial Perspective AI blog describes Anthropic and OpenAI as copiers and makes broader claims about Google DeepMind, Databricks, and Cohere. Those are that publisher’s assertions; the official sources and reporting cited here do not independently confirm direct copying or all details of those companies’ organizations. Perspective AI’s post should be read as commentary, not as proof of a documented industry-wide pattern.

Similar approach is not proof of copying
“Copying” makes a claim about influence: it says not only that two approaches look alike, but that one company took the idea from another. The material available here supports the first point more strongly than the second. It shows Palantir’s documented product-and-delivery model and reports or announcements of other providers using customer-embedded engineering. It does not show that Microsoft, AWS, or OpenAI directly attribute their approaches to Palantir.
Nor does the evidence support “everyone” as a literal description. There is no reliable population-level measure here of how many AI companies use this model. The named examples establish that the pattern is visible among several major providers—not that it is universal.

How to compare customer-embedded AI teams
The FDE label is not enough to tell a buyer what a vendor will actually do. Compare the engagement on the work and safeguards that matter to your organization:
- Organizational setup: Is the team an internal unit of the product company, or a separate deployment consultancy?
- Customer proximity: Will engineers work directly with your teams and systems, or provide remote support?
- Scope of work: Does the engagement cover engineering and production deployment, or primarily advice? Is continuing improvement included?
- Platform and workflow model: How does the system connect enterprise data to business logic and actions? Palantir’s published approach, for example, centers on its Ontology and links data, logic, actions, and security controls.
- Governance: How are permissions and security controls handled when AI works with business data and operational actions?
- Attribution: Has the provider explicitly said it learned from Palantir, or are observers inferring influence from a similar practice?
These are useful distinctions, but the cited sources do not provide a controlled comparison of vendors’ cost, implementation speed, or customer outcomes. Treat each provider’s staffing and capability statements as descriptions of its own offering unless independently measured results are available.
