Neither stock is an automatic better buy based on the available operating results alone. Intel reported strong growth in its server-related Data Center and AI business, but its foundry remained loss-making. Marvell has more concentrated data-center exposure and reported design wins at all four U.S. hyperscalers, but those wins do not guarantee future sales or margins. The deciding factors for an investor are the price paid, sustainable cash generation, capital needs and execution risk—not AI exposure by itself.
What the latest reported results say
The figures below come from different fiscal periods and use different segment definitions. They describe company-reported results, not directly comparable AI businesses or profit margins.
| Company and measure | Reported result | What it tells investors |
|---|---|---|
| Intel Data Center and AI (DCAI), Q2 2026 | $6.3 billion in revenue, up 59% year over year, according to Intel’s Q2 2026 results. | DCAI includes server-related products; it is not an AI-only revenue figure. |
| Intel Foundry, Q2 2026 | $5.8 billion in revenue, up 31% year over year, according to Intel’s Q2 2026 results. | Revenue growth did not mean the segment was profitable; see the operating result below. |
| Intel Foundry, Q2 2026 | $2.1 billion operating loss, compared with a $3.2 billion loss in Q2 2025, according to Intel’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q. | The year-over-year comparison was primarily affected by lower period charges. |
| Marvell data center, Q4 FY2026 | $1.651 billion, or 74% of net revenue, with 21% year-over-year growth, according to Marvell’s 2026 proxy statement. | This shows meaningful data-center concentration, but it is not a like-for-like comparison with Intel DCAI. |
Is Intel’s AI and server growth translating into stronger operations?
Intel’s Q2 2026 results show momentum in server-related products: DCAI revenue rose 59% year over year. Intel’s Q2 Form 10-Q adds important profit context: DCAI operating income increased by $1.8 billion year over year, primarily because of $1.7 billion in higher product profit, mainly related to higher server revenue. Those figures indicate improvement, but they do not establish the segment’s absolute operating margin or how much of that performance will persist.
Foundry growth is not yet proof of a profitable foundry
Intel Foundry reported Q2 2026 revenue of $5.8 billion, up 31% year over year, but also an operating loss of $2.1 billion. The loss was smaller than a year earlier, though Intel said lower period charges primarily affected that comparison. The quarter therefore supports a narrower conclusion: foundry revenue grew and the reported loss narrowed, but the business was still loss-making.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Foundry execution matters separately from Intel’s product sales. The company’s Q2 materials point to manufacturing investment, cost structure and product mix as factors investors need to weigh alongside revenue. Intel CFO Dave Zinsner said in the Q2 2026 earnings release that the company was “meaningfully increasing” investment in equipment, clean-room space and substrates to support expected growth across products and foundry. That is management’s spending outlook, not an independent forecast of returns.
Is Marvell benefiting more directly from AI data-center spending?
Marvell’s business is more concentrated in data-center infrastructure, including high-speed interconnect, switching and custom silicon. Its 2026 proxy statement reports that data-center revenue in Q4 FY2026 was $1.651 billion, 74% of net revenue, and grew 21% year over year. The same proxy says Marvell had design wins at all four U.S. hyperscalers. These are useful indicators of exposure and customer engagement, but a design win is not the same as shipped volume, recurring revenue or a profitable program.

The NVIDIA agreement is strategic context, not booked growth
Marvell’s 2026 proxy describes a strategic partnership announced with NVIDIA on March 31, 2026, and an associated $2 billion NVIDIA investment in Marvell. Marvell presents the partnership as a source of expected new revenue opportunities. Those opportunities remain forward-looking; the disclosed investment and announcement do not, by themselves, quantify realized incremental revenue or its eventual margins.
Marvell’s AI exposure also creates an insourcing risk
In its Q2 FY2027 Form 10-Q, for the quarter ended August 1, 2026, Marvell warns that advances in AI could disrupt its business. The filing says large cloud providers and other technology companies may develop custom chips in-house, potentially reducing demand for third-party products. It also warns that AI-enabled design efficiencies may shorten product cycles, strain development resources and raise inventory-obsolescence risk. These are disclosed scenarios, not evidence that a particular customer has left Marvell.

What the operating comparison does—and does not—establish
Intel’s reported DCAI growth and Marvell’s data-center concentration point to different kinds of exposure. Intel combines a broad semiconductor business with server products and a capital-intensive foundry effort. Marvell’s cited data-center share makes its exposure more concentrated, while its design-win disclosures signal engagement rather than guaranteed future business. The revenue figures should not be ranked as if the segments had identical boundaries, fiscal periods or economics.
The key unanswered operating questions are how much growth converts into sustainable free cash flow, how much ongoing investment is needed to support it, and how dependent each company is on a small number of customers or programs. The cited disclosures do not establish those answers in a synchronized cross-company comparison.

What to check before deciding which stock is the better buy
A company can have strong prospects and still be a poor investment at an excessive price. The available results do not provide a synchronized current stock-price or valuation comparison, an independently verified set of estimates, or enough information to make a categorical buy call. Compare both companies using the same date and assumptions:
- Valuation: Check current share prices and comparable valuation measures against the earnings and cash flows you believe are achievable. A revenue-growth rate alone does not show whether a stock is attractively priced.
- Cash generation and capital needs: Look at whether operating improvement becomes free cash flow after investment. For Intel, scrutinize foundry losses, manufacturing investment and the path to funding operations; for Marvell, assess the investment needed to turn customer programs into sustained shipments.
- Execution and customer exposure: For Intel, follow server-product performance and foundry execution. For Marvell, track whether design wins convert into durable revenue and margins, while considering the possibility of customer insourcing and shorter product cycles.
- Financing and dilution: Intel’s FY2025 Form 10-K describes government arrangements involving funding, shares and warrants. Review the filing’s complete terms before drawing conclusions about their effect on funding, ownership dilution or control.
- Investment horizon and risk tolerance: Decide whether you can accept the risks tied to a large manufacturing effort or to concentrated customer programs, and how long you are prepared to wait for those risks to resolve.
So, which AI chip stock is a better buy in 2026?
The evidence supports a business comparison, not a universal stock pick. Intel offers exposure to server products alongside a foundry business that reported higher revenue but remained loss-making in Q2 2026. Marvell offers more concentrated data-center exposure, with reported hyperscaler design wins and a strategic NVIDIA partnership, alongside risks from customer insourcing and rapid product cycles. Choosing between them requires current valuation and cash-flow analysis matched to an investor’s own assumptions and risk tolerance.
