Wales came from behind to beat Norway 2–1 in Cardiff, while Portugal defeated Denmark 4–2 in Copenhagen after Cristiano Ronaldo had left the Portugal camp. Wales’ winner followed a second-half red card; Portugal scored twice late to pull clear after Denmark had twice equalized.
How Wales came back to beat Norway
Norway took the lead through Oscar Bobb, but Daniel James brought Wales level after receiving a squared ball. The match turned just after half-time: Norway’s Torbjørn Heggem was sent off, and Neco Williams curled the resulting free kick into the net for the 2–1 winner. Wales manager Craig Bellamy also spoke about criticism and solidarity in comments reported by the Guardian: “Look, I am a strong person, I think we all are, but it’s the people around me I’m conscious of. Portugal beat Denmark 4–2
Portugal built a first-half lead through João Cancelo and Gonçalo Ramos. Denmark responded with goals from Mikkel Damsgaard and Rasmus Højlund to make it 2–2. Vitinha restored Portugal’s advantage in the 67th minute, and João Félix added a late fourth. What is established about Ronaldo’s absence
Ronaldo had officially left Portugal’s camp hours before the Denmark match. BBC Sport reported that he had been benched against Norway and said he would explain his reasons “in time.” The available reporting does not establish his complete motives, and his departure should not be treated as confirmation of international retirement. After Portugal’s win, manager Jorge Jesus said: “I still think exactly the same way – there are players with status. That much is crystal clear. But I’ll say it again – the rules are the same for everyone. That’s a method I’ve followed throughout my coaching career and I’ll continue to follow.” His comments address how he applies team rules; they do not, by themselves, explain Ronaldo’s departure. Two wins, different match stories
Wales overturned an early deficit and scored its winner after Heggem’s dismissal. Portugal’s match was more open: Denmark twice erased a Portuguese lead before Vitinha and Félix made the difference. Portugal’s victory came without Ronaldo, but one result does not establish what the team’s longer-term prospects are without him.
