Apache HTTP Server’s CVE-2026-63292 can let a remote client trigger denial of service or potentially execute arbitrary code, but only when specific module and configuration conditions are met. The Apache project lists version 2.4.69, released October 1, 2026, as the fix. Administrators should check the affected configuration and install the patched build supplied for their platform.

What does CVE-2026-63292 do?

The Apache HTTP Server project classifies CVE-2026-63292 as a moderate-impact stack overflow in mod_vhost_alias. A remote client can send a request with a Host header longer than 8192 bytes. Under the advisory’s specified conditions, this can cause denial of service or potentially allow arbitrary code execution. The project lists the flaw as affecting Apache HTTP Server through 2.4.68 on all platforms, and identifies 2.4.69 as the fixed release. See the Apache HTTP Server 2.4 vulnerability list.

“Potentially” matters: the advisory does not say that every affected-version installation is exploitable, or that code execution is guaranteed. Exposure depends on the module and configuration in use.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • mod_vhost_alias is in use.
  • VirtualDocumentRoot uses a hostname format specifier.
  • LimitRequestFieldSize has been raised above its default.
  • The server is running an affected build—upstream versions through 2.4.68, unless the vendor has supplied a fix or backport.

The advisory’s request condition is a Host header exceeding 8192 bytes. The version range and configuration conditions should be assessed together; a version number alone does not establish exposure.

Which version fixes the flaw?

The Apache project’s vulnerability list names 2.4.69, released October 1, 2026, as the fix for CVE-2026-63292. That is the upstream release recommendation, not a guarantee that every operating system or managed hosting service uses the same version numbering. Vendors may distribute security fixes in packages with their own build identifiers or backport a patch without adopting the upstream version number. Check the relevant provider’s security notice and package status before deciding whether a system remains unpatched.

How to check and remediate an Apache server

  1. Identify the running build. Check the version and package or managed-service build identifier for the deployed Apache HTTP Server instance. Do not rely only on a control-panel label if the provider documents a separate package build.
  2. Review the configuration. Determine whether mod_vhost_alias is used, whether VirtualDocumentRoot contains a hostname format specifier, and whether LimitRequestFieldSize is set above its default.
  3. Compare with current advisories. Review the Apache project’s vulnerability list and the security notice for your operating system, distribution, or hosting provider. Apache says administrators must read the specific advisory to determine impact on their own systems.
  4. Apply the provider’s fixed build. Follow the provider’s supported update and change process. The upstream fix is 2.4.69; the correct package and deployment steps depend on how Apache is delivered in your environment.
  5. Verify after updating. Confirm the running service uses the intended fixed package and that the relevant configuration is as expected. A package installation that has not been activated by the running service is not sufficient verification.

Other Apache vulnerabilities are separate issues

The same Apache vulnerability list records other issues fixed in 2.4.69, but they have different triggers and should not be treated as part of CVE-2026-63292:

  • A mod_xml2enc null pointer dereference can cause denial of service through a proxied response from an untrusted backend.
  • A mod_auth_digest forced-reauthentication denial of service applies before 2.4.69 when Digest authentication is enabled with AuthDigestNcCheck.

These examples illustrate why checking each advisory’s component and conditions is more useful than treating a release as having one generic “Apache flaw.”

How to interpret Apache severity labels

Apache’s impact levels describe the worst case across architectures; they do not establish that every installation is equally exposed. The project advises: “To determine the exact impact of a particular vulnerability on your own systems you will still need to read the security advisories to find out more about the flaw.” See the Apache security impact-level definitions. For this issue, use the specific CVE conditions, your configuration, and your vendor’s patch status—not the severity label alone—to make an exposure decision.

Reporting a suspected Apache security issue

If you have found a potential vulnerability, Apache asks people to report it privately before public disclosure. Its guidance says: “We strongly encourage folks to report such problems to the private security mailing list of the ASF Security Team, before disclosing them in a public forum.” Follow the project’s security problem reporting guidance.
