But “built” covers several different roles: some projects were developed or redeveloped, others were acquired or operated, and some carry the Trump name through branding. The record is not a list of buildings Trump personally designed or physically constructed.
What does “built” mean in Trump’s real-estate record?
Donald Trump began working in his father Fred Trump’s New York real-estate business before moving into Manhattan development. The Trump Organization’s biography quotes him saying, “My father was my mentor, and I learned a tremendous amount about every aspect of the construction industry from him.” The biography does not say when or where he made the remark.
For the projects below, development means a role in bringing a project forward; it does not establish that Trump personally designed or performed construction work. Adaptive reuse means converting or renovating an existing property. Acquisition means buying a property that may already have been built. Operating or branding a hotel or resort is also distinct from developing its original buildings.
Which New York projects are part of the record?
The Trump Organization’s undated biography identifies several New York properties and describes a mix of development, conversion, renovation and acquisition. Its account is useful for understanding the company’s portfolio claims, but it is not an independent audit of Trump’s role in every building.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

| Project | Work or role described | Type and status in the source |
|---|---|---|
| Grand Hyatt New York | Conversion of the Commodore Hotel, alongside restoration of Grand Central Terminal’s exterior | Adaptive reuse and restoration; hotel |
| Trump Place | Development on the former West Side rail yards; the company says Trump built the first nine of 16 buildings | Large residential development; the company also says it donated a 25-acre waterfront park and a 700-foot pier |
| Trump Tower, Trump Parc, Trump Palace, Trump Plaza, Trump World Tower, Trump Park Avenue and 610 Park Avenue | Identified by the company biography among its New York properties; the biography’s listing alone does not establish the same development role for each | Portfolio of residential and other properties; individual roles are not specified here |
| The Plaza Hotel | Acquired and renovated, according to the company biography | Hotel; acquisition and renovation, not original construction |
| 40 Wall Street | Acquisition, according to the company biography | Property acquired; original construction is not attributed to Trump by that description |
| Jacob K. Javits Convention Center | The company biography credits Trump with a role in its designation and construction on land he controlled | Convention center; the source describes a role, not sole authorship |
The distinctions matter especially for Trump Place: the company’s account supports crediting Trump with the first nine buildings, not all 16. It also describes a park and pier contribution, which is separate from building the development itself.
What hotel and residential projects did he develop outside New York?
Chicago
The Trump Organization’s undated biography describes the Chicago tower as a mixed-use project combining residences, a hotel and retail. It says Trump announced the tower in 2001, gives its size as 2.7 million square feet and 92 stories, and reports that the hotel opened in January 2008. The 2.7-million-square-foot figure is the company biography’s figure, not an independently audited measurement presented here.

Other properties
The same biography lists a Las Vegas hotel-condominium tower and properties in Waikiki, Doral and Ireland. Those mentions do not, by themselves, establish that Trump developed each property from the ground up or show its present-day ownership or operating status. The available descriptions vary in whether the role was ownership, development or operation.
Which golf courses and resorts did Trump develop, acquire or renovate?
The golf portfolio includes new development as well as acquired courses and resorts. A 2023 disclosure hosted by the New York Attorney General distinguishes the opening and proposed phases at Trump International Golf Links Scotland from the earlier histories of Turnberry and Doonbeg.

| Property | Work or role described | Status and dates stated by the source |
|---|---|---|
| Trump International Golf Links Scotland | Development of a golf and resort project | First phase, including the course and practice facilities, opened in 2012; MacLeod House & Lodge opened in 2013 and the clubhouse in 2015. A second phase, including a second course and other proposed amenities, received planning permission in 2019; permission does not establish that it was completed. |
| Turnberry | Acquired by Trump-associated entities | Acquisition in 2014, according to the 2023 disclosure; subsequent resort operations and improvements are distinct from originating the property. |
| Doonbeg | Acquired by Trump-associated entities after the course was established | The course officially opened in 2002; Trump-associated entities bought the property in 2014, according to the 2023 disclosure. |
| Doral’s Blue Monster | Trump Golf says it transformed the course by changing its length, hazards, greens and risk-reward features | Company history dates the transformation to 2014. |
| Ferry Point | Trump Golf says the course was completed under the organization’s leadership | Company history gives a completion period of 2015–2023 and describes a 20,000-square-foot clubhouse. |
The Turnberry and Doonbeg histories show why “Trump built the course” can be misleading: in those cases, the properties had histories before Trump-associated entities acquired them. Trump Golf’s descriptions of the Blue Monster and Ferry Point are company accounts, rather than independent assessments of the work.
Which projects are announced or underway rather than completed?
Announcements and construction starts belong in a pipeline, not a completed-building tally. The Trump Organization’s 2025 year-end letter described Vietnam as having broken ground in May 2025. The Associated Press reported in May 2025 that Vietnam had approved a proposed $1.5 billion project spanning 990 hectares, with work expected to continue through 2029. The $1.5 billion figure is the reported value of a proposal, not a verified final construction cost.

The same company-authored letter announced a Maldives hotel with an intended opening by the end of 2028 and referred to projects in Indonesia, Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia as underway. These are descriptions from the organization in 2025; an announced opening date can change, and those projects should not be counted as completed buildings on that basis.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is there a reliable total of what Trump personally built?
The available project descriptions support a representative history, not a comprehensive property-by-property inventory or an audited total of square footage personally built by Trump. They also mix buildings he developed with properties acquired, renovated, operated or branded. Any single total that treats all those roles as equivalent would overstate what the documented descriptions establish.
