Hindustan Times reporter Sanya Panwar describes the following routine as one shared by beauty expert Shahnaz Husain. The quantities are adjusted for hair length, so the egg count is a broad range rather than a precise ratio.
- Henna powder: 5–7 tablespoons, adjusted for hair length.
- Eggs: 1–5 whole eggs, also adjusted for hair length. The article suggests egg whites for an oily scalp or yolks when the hair needs moisture.
- Warm water: enough to make a smooth paste.
- Optional black tea: cooled brewed tea, suggested for richer color tones.
- Optional coconut oil: 1 teaspoon, suggested if hair is prone to dryness.
How to prepare and apply it
- Mix the henna powder with warm water. Add cooled brewed black tea or coconut oil if using either option.
- Cover the mixture and let it rest for 2–4 hours.
- Beat in the egg or eggs immediately before application.
- Section the hair and apply the mixture from roots to ends, saturating the hair.
- Leave it on for 45 minutes to one hour.
- Rinse thoroughly with plain water, then follow with a gentle shampoo.

Does the mask explain Husain’s thick hair or grow hair?
The Hindustan Times story attributes to Husain the view that the treatment can condition hair, strengthen follicles and improve appearance. It also characterizes henna as conditioning and tinting and egg proteins as fortifying strands against breakage. But the story supplies no clinical trial, measured hair-density result or named statistic showing that this recipe grows hair or increases thickness. The recipe should therefore be understood as her reported routine, not a demonstrated explanation for her hair or a guaranteed result for someone else.

Henna safety: check the product before using it
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says henna is a plant-derived coloring approved for hair-dye use in the United States. Products marketed as “black henna” often contain added p-phenylenediamine (PPD), a coal-tar hair dye that can cause dangerous skin reactions in some people. A product labelled henna is not necessarily pure henna: check the ingredient list and confirm it is intended for hair use. See the FDA’s henna and black henna fact sheet.
The FDA’s hair-dye skin-test directions are for dye products used according to their labels; they are not a validated testing protocol for this homemade mask. The FDA advises consumers to check cosmetic ingredient panels and avoid known or suspected allergens. Patch testing is a diagnostic procedure a health professional may recommend, rather than a home test established here for this recipe. What Husain says about diet and hair
The interview also attributes these comments to Husain: “A balanced diet provides the nutrients required for normal hair growth and overall maintenance.” She adds: “Rather than relying on a single ‘hair food’ or quick supplement, the emphasis should always be on a varied, nutritious diet and adequate hydration.” These are her statements as reported in the interview, separate from evidence about whether the mask changes hair growth or density.
