The Mobile Pixels Duex Max DS gives a laptop a portable 14.1-inch second screen, and reviewer Dennis Sellers found it useful for travel. The tradeoff is setup: depending on your laptop’s ports, you may need separate video and power cables. A single USB-C cable works only when the host USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode.
What the Duex Max DS offers
Mobile Pixels lists the Duex Max DS as a 14.1-inch portable display. The related Duex Plus DS is smaller at 13.3 inches. Manufacturer specifications for the Max DS include a 1920 × 1080 LCD, 16:9 aspect ratio, adjustable brightness up to 300 nits, 60 Hz refresh rate and a weight of 1.8 lb. These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent measurements. Mobile Pixels’ Duex DS specifications
It has one USB-C port and one mini-HDMI port. The listed compatible systems include Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, Nintendo Switch and Android/Samsung DeX. The product manual shows connections for Switch and Android devices as well as laptops. Mobile Pixels’ compatibility information Duex Max DS manual
Check your laptop’s ports before choosing a connection
The number of cables depends on whether your laptop can send video over USB-C. A USB-C connector alone does not guarantee that capability: check the laptop’s specifications for DisplayPort Alternate Mode (DP Alt Mode) support.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Mobile Pixels lists a USB-C cable with a USB-A adapter and a mini-HDMI-to-HDMI cable in the box. The manual’s connection diagrams also show separate power when video comes from HDMI. Check the ports and capabilities of your specific computer, tablet or console before buying; the cable setup is not identical for every host. Attach it to the laptop or set it beside the computer?
The included mounting approach uses four magnets and adhesive-backed plates. The plates attach to the back of the laptop; the display can then slide and rotate into position. The manual also illustrates portrait orientation and a presentation position. Because the plates use adhesive, consider where you want them on the laptop before attaching them. Duex Max DS manual

For a screen that sits beside rather than attaches to the laptop, Mobile Pixels names the Origami Kickstand as a separately purchasable accessory. Sellers describes a different option from his own use: setting the monitor beside the computer with its cover as a stand. Those are distinct setups; the cover-as-stand is his reported experience, not the manufacturer’s named kickstand. Mobile Pixels’ Origami Kickstand information Sellers’ review

He also said the cords were noticeable, but that the arrangement worked well for him. These are Sellers’ impressions, not independent test results or measurements. Sellers’ review

Sellers said he would not use it as his main office setup, but would take it on the go. He also reported being able to pack it in a backpack with its cover. His verdict makes the practical tradeoff clear: a portable second display can be worthwhile when extra screen space matters away from a desk, but the cables and mounting arrangement are part of the setup rather than something to overlook.

- If it does not, make sure you have an HDMI video output and a way to power the display separately.
- Decide whether you want the screen attached with magnetic plates or positioned beside the laptop.
- Verify the listing’s exact model and current price. Sellers reported US$299 as the usual price and US$229.49 as a limited-time offer on October 1, 2026; Root-Nation reported US$195.49 at its own review time. Those are historical prices, not current quotes. Sellers’ review Root-Nation’s review
