SteelSeries has announced four wireless gaming mice that use ultra-wideband (UWB) instead of a conventional 2.4 GHz link and support polling rates up to 8,000 Hz. The Sensei Pro and Rival Pro lines come in full-size and Mini versions. SteelSeries claims the UWB connection resists congestion and the two-battery design can last up to 32 hours at 8K, but those benefits have not been independently established here—and one reviewer reported frame-rate drops in some games at 8K.
Which SteelSeries UWB mice were announced?
The September 29, 2026 launch includes four models, each offered in black and white, according to SteelSeries’ announcement.
| Model | Shape family | Size |
|---|---|---|
| Sensei Pro | Symmetrical | Full-size |
| Sensei Pro Mini | Symmetrical | Mini |
| Rival Pro | Ergonomic | Full-size |
| Rival Pro Mini | Ergonomic | Mini |
The lineup gives buyers two basic choices: Sensei for a symmetrical form or Rival for an ergonomic one, then full-size or Mini. The launch materials establish those shape categories but do not provide enough comparative fit data to recommend a particular model for a hand size or grip style.
What changes with UWB instead of 2.4 GHz?
SteelSeries says the mice operate across 6.4–9.056 GHz and can use multiple wireless channels simultaneously. The company describes the available bandwidth as roughly 20 times that of 2.4 GHz and says the approach is less exposed to the congestion and interference that can affect conventional 2.4 GHz wireless. Those are SteelSeries claims; the sources available do not include controlled, independent radio measurements demonstrating a reliability or latency advantage.

Wireless partner SPARK Microsystems says its low-energy UWB platform is part of the portfolio’s connectivity implementation. That partner announcement describes the collaboration, not independent proof of how the mice perform in real-world radio conditions: SPARK Microsystems’ announcement.
What does 8,000 Hz polling mean in practice?
Polling rate is how often a mouse reports input to the computer. SteelSeries calls the feature “True 8K” and says the mice can send 8,000 reports per second—up to eight times the rate of a 1,000 Hz mouse. The company also says its Max Performance Mode uses 20,000 sensor captures per second while maintaining 800 IPS and 70G. These are specifications and performance claims from the launch announcement, not independent benchmark results.

A higher polling setting is not automatically better for every player. Tom’s Guide’s September 29 review, which describes a month of testing, reports frame-rate drops in some games—including Valorant, Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Rust—when using 8K settings. That is one reviewer’s observation, not a result established for every game, computer, or configuration. The review also says click polling and sensor polling can be adjusted separately, which may help users tune settings rather than treat 8K as an all-or-nothing choice. See Tom’s Guide’s review.
How long do the batteries last?
SteelSeries’ Infinite Power System uses two hot-swappable batteries. The company claims up to 16 hours per battery at 8K, or 32 hours combined, and up to 60 hours per battery at 1K, or 120 hours combined. These are manufacturer figures; actual runtime under different settings and use has not been independently verified in the available coverage. The 8K and 1K figures also illustrate a meaningful trade-off: the advertised total runtime is much lower at the highest polling rate.

Hot-swapping is intended to let a player replace one battery while keeping the other in the system, rather than stop to recharge a single built-in battery. The launch information does not establish whether spare batteries are sold separately or which replacement SKU, if any, is compatible.

The phrase “first true 8K” belongs to SteelSeries’ launch framing. The available material does not establish a verified market-first, and it is not enough to make a complete comparison with every competing UWB or 8K mouse. Independent side-by-side testing of wireless reliability, latency, battery life, and game performance would be needed to determine whether UWB delivers a practical advantage over 2.4 GHz for a given setup.
