The arrests were reported on October 1; the investigation was still ongoing in accounts published that day, and an arrest is not a finding of guilt.
What happened during polling
Firing was reported on September 28, 2026, in the Warrangbari/Waranbari area of Gomati district while TTAADC Village Committee elections were under way. Hindustan Times reported that Khachindra Reang, a Tipra Motha Party candidate contesting Ward No. 2 of Gamaria Village Committee, was among three people injured and was referred to GBP Hospital in Agartala. The locality appears with different spellings in the reports, so the precise site name is not consistent across accounts. Hindustan Times; Eastmojo; Northeast Now
What is known about the arrests
Reports published October 1 said police arrested two people late on September 30 and produced them before a court the following day. Police reportedly sought remand or further interrogation while investigating whether others were involved. The reports do not establish the arrested people’s identities, formal charges, or any later court outcome; arrest does not establish guilt. Hindustan Times; Eastmojo; Northeast Now
Hindustan Times attributed the arrest account to an unnamed senior police officer, who said the two were arrested in Takarjala, Sepahijala district, based on secret information. Another regional report described arrest locations in Champaknagar and Takajala areas. Because those descriptions differ, the exact locations should be treated as outlet-attributed accounts rather than a settled detail. Hindustan Times; Eastmojo; Northeast Now
