The biotech is Kura Oncology (NASDAQ: KURA). JPMorgan reportedly set a $30 year-end price target—about 180% above the $10.71 closing price cited in an October 1, 2026 story—but that is an analyst forecast, not a promised return.
What JPMorgan’s reported target says—and what it does not
A CNBC story dated October 1, 2026, as reproduced in secondary records, reported that JPMorgan analyst Priyanka Grover initiated coverage of Kura Oncology at overweight with a $30 year-end target. The story compared the target with the prior Wednesday’s $10.71 close. Reaching $30 from that reference price would mean a gain of roughly 180%, or a share price about 2.8 times as high.
The original CNBC article and JPMorgan research note were not directly available in the reviewed materials. JPMorgan’s valuation method, assumptions, and reasoning therefore cannot be confirmed here. A target price is a forecast, not a guarantee that the shares will reach that level by year-end—or at all.
What Kura sells today
Kura’s commercial product is Komzifti (ziftomenib), an oral menin inhibitor. The FDA approved it on November 13, 2025, for adults with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with a susceptible NPM1 mutation who have no satisfactory alternative treatment options. The approval is limited to that population; it is not an approval for AML generally or for all NPM1-mutated disease.

The FDA describes the recommended dose as a 600 mg oral capsule once daily. The approval’s efficacy evidence came from KO-MEN-001, an open-label, single-arm, multicenter study of 112 adults. The FDA snapshot says the study was conducted at 42 sites in seven countries. Those details describe the approved product and its supporting study; they should not be read as evidence that the drug is effective for other cancers or patient groups.
What Kura’s second-quarter launch figures show
In its August 12, 2026 company release, Kura reported early commercial activity alongside continued losses. These are company-reported figures and indicate launch progress to date, not proof of sustained growth or future market share.

Kura also cited $180 million in anticipated Kyowa Kirin collaboration payments when discussing its resources and runway. The release’s launch metrics do not establish how long patient use will persist, what future pricing will be, or what share of the addressable market Komzifti may ultimately capture.
CEO Troy Wilson characterized Komzifti’s early launch position by saying it had achieved “a majority share of new patient starts in the menin inhibitor class.” That is the company’s description of its position, not an independent market assessment.

How to interpret the peak-sales estimates
The October 1 story reproduction attributes two potential peak-sales estimates to JPMorgan: roughly $1.5 billion worldwide for Komzifti across current and expansion markets, and $600 million for darlifarnib. These are estimates of possible future peak sales, not current revenue, company guidance, or results demonstrated in clinical trials. The underlying model assumptions were unavailable, so the estimates cannot be independently assessed from the reviewed material.
Komzifti’s current FDA label is narrower than a forecast that includes expansion markets. Any sales potential beyond the approved population depends on future evidence and regulatory outcomes; it should not be treated as established revenue. Darlifarnib is a pipeline candidate, not an approved commercial product.

What the pipeline could add—and when Kura says it may report more
Kura’s Q2 release described darlifarnib as a precision combination candidate and set out planned clinical milestones. The dates below are company plans, not completed milestones or evidence of benefit.
- Darlifarnib plus cabozantinib: Kura planned to complete enrollment in the randomized FIT-001 Phase 1b study in cabozantinib-naïve clear-cell renal cell carcinoma in the first half of 2027, with initial clinical data expected in the second half of 2027.
- Darlifarnib plus daraxonrasib: Kura planned to start a study in second-line-or-later KRAS-mutant pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma in the first half of 2027.
- Ziftomenib combinations and other research: The company also described continued study of ziftomenib combinations in AML and evaluation of ziftomenib with imatinib in gastrointestinal stromal tumors. These remain development programs, separate from Komzifti’s approved indication.
What would matter when judging the investment case
The reported target alone cannot establish whether KURA is attractive at any particular price. The facts available point to several distinct questions investors would need to track rather than treating a peak-sales figure or target price as a near-term forecast:

- Commercial execution: whether revenue, new starts, and repeat prescriptions continue to develop beyond the early launch quarters.
- Financial resources and cash use: how the cash balance, collaboration payments, expenses, and losses evolve over time.
- Evidence and regulatory scope: what clinical data support the approved population and any proposed expansions, and whether those programs lead to regulatory decisions.
- Forecast assumptions: how an analyst’s sales estimates and target compare with disclosed company results, recognizing that the detailed JPMorgan model was not available.
