Choose by mood and viewing commitment
For a sweeping family saga: East of Eden
Netflix’s seven-episode adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel centers on Cathy Ames, played by Florence Pugh, and the Trask family. Zoe Kazan oversees the adaptation. It is the pick for viewers who want a longer dramatic story rather than a one-sitting movie; reading the novel first is optional. Netflix’s October 2 weekly release guide confirms new titles arriving on the service that week.
For a thriller with a central adult female lead: Kill Jackie
Catherine Zeta-Jones stars as Jackie Price, a wealthy art dealer targeted by an assassination group. She turns to people from her past and sets out to hunt the group. Choose it for a thriller rather than a family or relationship drama.
