A convict at Neemka district jail in Faridabad has been booked after an undertrial alleged that he was assaulted when he resisted sexual exploitation, according to reports published in September and October 2026. The FIR reported by Hindustan Times names offences under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 115 and 127(2); police said further provisions could be added if sexual assault or an attempt is established. The allegation is under investigation, not a finding of guilt.
What is reported to have happened at Neemka jail?
Hindustan Times reported on 2 October 2026 that the undertrial approached prison officials after an alleged assault. Quoting Faridabad Police public relations officer Yashpal Yadav, it said the suspect dragged the inmate into a bathroom during the preceding week and physically assaulted him after he protested. The two men had been lodged in the same barrack, according to the report.
A related Amar Ujala report, published 29 September 2026 and citing a letter from the jail superintendent, places the alleged incident on 27 September. It identifies the accused inmate as Ajit, from Mehndipur village in Palwal district, and says he and the complainant shared barrack 7, room 3. Those identity and room details are reported by Amar Ujala; Hindustan Times does not provide them.
How did the police case begin?
Hindustan Times reported that the jail superintendent filed a complaint at Sadar Ballabgarh police station on Monday, after the victim approached prison officials. Amar Ujala also says the jail administration complained to that station and that police registered a case and began investigating. The reports do not give an FIR number or reproduce the complaint.

According to Hindustan Times, the FIR invoked BNS section 115, concerning voluntarily causing hurt, and section 127(2), concerning punishment for wrongful confinement. The official India Code text of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 sets out those section headings. Their inclusion in an FIR records the offences reported at this stage; it is not a court’s determination that the accused committed them.
Were sexual-assault provisions included in the FIR?
The available report says no such provision was included in the sections initially reported. Yashpal Yadav told Hindustan Times: “If sexual assault or its attempt is established, police will invoke relevant provisions of the law in the FIR for taking necessary legal action against the convict.” This is a conditional statement about possible further action, not confirmation that a sexual-assault offence had already been added.

What steps did the jail take, according to the report?
Hindustan Times says the jail administration separated the victim and suspect and placed them in different barracks under safety protocols. The reports do not provide further details about protective measures or subsequent investigative steps.
What is known about the accused inmate’s earlier cases?
Hindustan Times, attributing the figure to Faridabad Police, reported that 53 criminal cases had been registered against the inmate between 1996 and 2018. It listed matters involving murder, attempted murder, theft, illegal weapons, robbery, dacoity, criminal trespass, assault and criminal intimidation. It also said he had been acquitted in some cases and convicted in others, and was then in jail in connection with a 2018 murder case. Amar Ujala likewise reported a 53-case figure based on jail records and noted acquittals as well as convictions.

The reported count is not 53 convictions. It is background attributed to police or jail records, and it does not establish whether the current assault allegation is true. The 2018 murder case is separate from the allegation at Neemka jail.

The September and October accounts describe the same alleged event and initial police response, but differ in detail. The more specific date, name and room information in Amar Ujala is attributed to the superintendent’s letter; it should not be treated as independent confirmation of those particulars. The reports do not establish whether sexual-assault provisions were later added, whether a charge sheet was filed, or how a court ultimately ruled. A later police or court update would be needed to describe any of those developments.
