Mohali Property Tax: 10% Rebate Deadline Passed; About 21% Still Unpaid

The 10% rebate deadline for Mohali’s 2026–27 property tax ended on September 30, 2026. By that date, about 9,000 of nearly 42,000 taxable properties remained unpaid—approximately 21%—and the Municipal Corporation had collected around ₹40 crore, according to Municipal Corporation data reported by Hindustan Times on October 2.

What happens if you missed Mohali’s September 30 rebate deadline?

The 10% rebate applied to 2026–27 property tax payments made by September 30, according to a contemporaneous Amar Ujala report published September 25, 2026. After the deadline, the rebate is no longer available.

Assistant commissioner Jagjit Singh told Hindustan Times that taxpayers could pay through December 31 without the rebate. The report says a 10% penalty would be imposed from January; payments after March would attract a 20% penalty along with 18% interest. It does not specify the exact January effective date or the calculation base for penalties and interest, so confirm those details with the Municipal Corporation if they affect your payment.

How many Mohali property-tax accounts were unpaid?

Hindustan Times attributed these rounded figures to Municipal Corporation data: nearly 33,000 properties, or 78%, had paid by September 30, while about 9,000—approximately 21%—had not. The reported collection from April 1 through September 30 was around ₹40 crore. These percentages concern taxable properties, not every property unit in the city.

The corporation’s latest reported inventory comprised 60,987 property units, including 16,264 exempted units and 44,723 taxable ones. The payment-count denominator of nearly 42,000 in the deadline report differs from that inventory’s taxable-unit total; the reports do not explain the difference, so the figures should not be treated as interchangeable.

Which property categories had the most pending payments?

The following counts were attributed to Municipal Corporation data in Hindustan Times’ October 2 report. The “pending” column reflects the newspaper’s reported category counts, not an explanation for why payments were outstanding.

Residential properties had the largest reported pending count. Mixed-use properties also had a high pending count relative to their category size; the figures alone do not establish why.

Where can you check the amount and pay?

  1. Open the Municipal Corporation Mohali official website.
  2. Use its “Pay Your Property Tax” service link and follow the currently available payment instructions. The website also lists online-service user manuals.
  3. Check the assessed amount and payment status for your property before paying, and retain the receipt or confirmation for your records.

The official site is the appropriate starting point, but the available listing does not establish a specific live checkout sequence. If the service path, amount or payment status is unclear, contact the Municipal Corporation rather than relying on an assumed online procedure.

Could your property be exempt?

Hindustan Times listed single-storey houses measuring up to 5 marla, flats smaller than 500 square feet, and eligible properties belonging to defence personnel among reported exemptions. This is not a complete eligibility rulebook: conditions may apply, and the report does not provide enough detail to decide an individual property’s status. Ask the Municipal Corporation to confirm eligibility for your specific property.

How have reported collections changed?

Municipal Corporation figures reported by Hindustan Times put collections at around ₹24 crore in 2021–22 and ₹57 crore in 2025–26. Those are reported annual collection totals; they do not explain what drove the change.
