Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini urged farmers to diversify beyond heavy reliance on paddy and wheat, conserve groundwater and adopt modern agricultural technologies at a two-day Rabi Agriculture Fair at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) in Hisar. The event was in Hisar, not Rohtak, despite the Hindustan Times report’s headline.
What Saini asked Haryana farmers to do
Saini framed crop diversification and water conservation as ways to make agriculture more sustainable amid changing climate conditions. His central message was to produce more with less water and fewer resources, while protecting groundwater for farming and rural communities. He said: “If there is water, there is agriculture, there is a village and there is life,” according to Hindustan Times.
Grow a broader mix of crops
He advocated growing more pulses, oilseeds and other less water-intensive crops rather than depending heavily on paddy and wheat. The report connects this call to reducing pressure on groundwater; it does not prescribe a particular crop mix for individual farms.
Adapt cotton farming to weather and pests
Saini described cotton as an important cash crop and source of livelihood for farming families in Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar and adjoining areas. He called for varieties and technologies better able to withstand changing weather and pest attacks. The report also describes cotton as “white gold.”

Which technologies and practices he highlighted
The technologies Saini urged farmers to adopt included drones, sensor technology, digital weather information and precision farming. The report does not identify specific products, brands or providers.
It also says the government was promoting natural farming, solar pumps and crop-residue management. Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana urged scientists to help farmers access modern technology and facilities and encourage diversification.

Other initiatives and recognition at the fair
Saini felicitated 45 progressive farmers—30 men and 15 women—for work in natural farming, crop diversification, crop-residue management, mushroom cultivation, food processing, dairy farming, beekeeping and vermicomposting.
