Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made the announcement at the launch of Invest Maharashtra in Mumbai. These are proposed investments and potential jobs—not confirmation that projects have been financed, built or staffed.
What Maharashtra announced
The MoUs were signed and exchanged in Mumbai in connection with the launch of Invest Maharashtra. The Chief Minister’s Office attributed the headline figures to Fadnavis: 67 agreements, 65 companies, ₹8.57 lakh crore in proposed investment and potential employment for 2.91 lakh people. Moneycontrol reported that the CMO explained the difference between the agreement and company counts by noting that some companies signed more than one MoU. Moneycontrol reported the announcement; Financial Express reproduced the Chief Minister’s Office statement.

Data centres, information technology and semiconductors make up the largest reported investment category. The proposed portfolio also spans energy and industrial projects as well as services and infrastructure. Where are the proposed projects?
Reported examples extend beyond Mumbai and Pune. Moneycontrol names Akshat Greentech proposals across Navi Mumbai and Pune, Sterlite Group proposals in Shahpur and Khalapur, Shyam Metalics and Energy in Chandrapur, Pi-Semicon in Nashik, and Astracity in Ratnagiri. News On AIR also identifies proposals from Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Palghar and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. These are proposed locations, not evidence that facilities are operating. Moneycontrol and News On AIR list the reported examples.
What Invest Maharashtra is meant to do
Invest Maharashtra was presented as an investment-promotion and facilitation platform. Fadnavis said the government would coordinate project needs such as land, power, infrastructure, approvals and skilled manpower after an investor selects a project. News On AIR also reported the stated aim of connecting local small and medium-sized businesses, suppliers, young people and farmers with supply-chain opportunities and skills development. The platform’s launch and stated role do not by themselves establish that any particular MoU has reached those stages. News On AIR reported the facilitation plans.

Do the MoUs guarantee investment or jobs?
No. An MoU announcement records proposed projects and expected outcomes; the headline totals do not show how much funding has been committed or spent, which projects have received approvals, or how many jobs have been created. The available reporting does not provide the full register or text of all 67 agreements, their financing and milestones, or implementation results for this group. It is therefore not possible to calculate a completion rate or treat 2.91 lakh as confirmed employment. Moneycontrol reports the proposals, and News On AIR reports the announcement; neither account establishes project-level outcomes.
