Select Try on, take or upload a selfie, and ChatGPT Images creates an approximate visualization. It can help you judge style, but it cannot confirm the item’s fit, size, fabric, color accuracy, or exact appearance.
How ChatGPT’s virtual try-on works
OpenAI announced the feature in its October 1, 2026 release notes. It is designed for clothing and accessory product listings in ChatGPT on mobile and the web.
- Open a clothing or accessory product listing in ChatGPT and select Try on.
- Take a selfie or upload one when prompted.
- Review the generated image created with ChatGPT Images.
You can also upload a picture of clothing or an accessory directly in a conversation and ask ChatGPT to show how it could look on you.
Managing photos used for future try-ons
OpenAI says reference photos are saved so they can be reused for later try-ons. To manage them, open Settings → Personalization → Reference photos. From there, you can replace or delete saved reference photos.

Saving products while you shop
Use the bookmark control to save a product to Favorites or create a folder in ChatGPT Library. This lets you organize items while comparing possible outfits or accessories.
What the preview can—and cannot—tell you
The image is a visual approximation, not a fitting-room measurement. OpenAI’s help documentation states: “Try-on images may not represent the product or your appearance exactly and do not guarantee fit or size.”

Open the merchant’s page to verify the current price, selected size and color, stock status, shipping terms, and return conditions. Those details can change after ChatGPT displays a result.

Where the feature is available
The release notes document virtual try-on in ChatGPT’s mobile and web experiences. The announcement does not specify a country-by-country rollout or which account plans qualify, so availability may vary and should be checked in your own ChatGPT account.

1. Use a clear, suitable photo
A well-lit selfie that shows the relevant part of your body gives the image generator more useful visual information. It still does not turn the result into a sizing assessment.

2. Treat several previews as style references
Try different items or colors to compare overall looks, while remembering that each generated image can differ from the real product.
3. Confirm physical details with the merchant
Use the listing’s measurements, materials, care information, customer-service details, and return rules to make the purchase decision—not the generated image alone.
