HP says its new OmniBook 5 14 AI PC can play local video for up to 42 hours on a charge. That figure comes from a controlled test—not a promise of 42 hours of web browsing, streaming or everyday mixed use. HP announced the laptop on October 1, 2026, with a starting price of $699.99.
How long does the HP OmniBook 5 battery last?
HP’s claim is up to 42 hours of local video playback. The company tested continuous 1920 × 1080 video at 200 nits, with system audio at the image default and player audio at 100%, playing full-screen from local storage. Wireless was on but not connected; playback used headphones or speakers. HP says actual battery life varies by configuration, and maximum battery capacity decreases over time and use. The figure should therefore be read as HP’s result under those specific conditions, not as a runtime estimate for streaming video, browsing or a typical workday. HP’s October 1 announcement does not provide an independent real-world battery test.
HP’s announcement and battery-test footnote contain the full qualification.
What does the $699.99 starting price include?
HP announced a starting price of $699.99 and expected October 2026 availability through HP.com and Best Buy. That is an announcement price and expected sales timing, not confirmation of current stock or the price of every configuration. HP says pricing and availability may change without notice. Check the specific configuration and retailer listing before buying.

What to check before choosing a configuration
If you are comparing the OmniBook 5 with another laptop, compare like-for-like configurations rather than the advertised starting price against another model’s higher specification. Check the exact processor, display resolution and brightness, touch support, memory, storage, ports and price. For battery comparisons, look for test conditions that are actually comparable: a local-video result at fixed brightness is not directly comparable to a mixed-use or streaming figure.

- 【 Intel Core 7 150U Processor】It is a high-end notebook CPU based on the Raptor Lake-U Refresh (RPL-U) series (Alder Lake architecture), which was introduced in January 2024. The CPU offers 2 performance cores (P-cores, Golden Cove architecture) and 8 efficiency cores (E-cores, Gracemont architecture). The P-cores support hyperthreading (therefore 12 threads together) and clock from 1.8 to 5.4 GHz. The E-cores clock from 1.2 - 4 GHz and should offer comparable performance to old Skylake cores.
- 【14.0 " (1920x1200) touch Display】Intuitive touchscreen technology lets you control your PC right from the screen. Transform your content with 1920 x 1200 resolution and 178-degree wide-viewing angles. Make taking notes, sketching, and editing easier by rotating the screen to tablet or tent mode. Multitouch-enabled, IPS (in-plane switching), edge-to-edge glass.
- 【Other features】Intel Graphics,Microsoft Copilot,Tuned stereo speakers,HP Audio Boost,HP 5MP IR Camera with HDR Switch, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 11 Home OS.
HP’s announcement establishes the product’s claimed features and test methodology, but it does not establish an independent battery result or show that the OmniBook outlasts competing laptops. The Phandroid report also describes the announcement; HP’s release is the primary source for specifications and test conditions.
