Dundas Chart for .NET OLAP Services 5.5 is a legacy ASP.NET charting component for presenting OLAP data. It is associated with the Enterprise Edition of Dundas Chart for ASP.NET, not with the modern Dundas BI or Custom Analytics product lines. Historical materials identify several 5.5 additions, but the available evidence does not confirm current sales, licensing, support, or compatibility with modern .NET and Windows releases.

What Dundas Chart for .NET OLAP Services 5.5 is

The name refers to Dundas’s older web-charting technology for .NET applications that use online analytical processing (OLAP) data. A historical Visual Studio Marketplace listing for Dundas Chart for ASP.NET Enterprise Edition states that the Enterprise package included Dundas Chart for ASP.NET OLAP Services. That listing also describes charting, interaction, data-analysis, and rendering capabilities.

This is a product from the older Dundas Chart for ASP.NET generation. It should not be treated as a synonym for Dundas BI, Custom Analytics, or another current Dundas offering. The archived help materials carry a 2001–2009 copyright notice, reinforcing the product’s legacy status.

What changed in version 5.5

An archived, search-indexed excerpt of the Dundas 5.5 release notes lists the following highlights. The excerpt is not a complete feature inventory, and the source page was not directly available for verification.

  • User-interface support for working with chart settings and interactions.
  • FastPoint chart type, intended for displaying large point sets efficiently.
  • Stand-alone and integrated chart toolbars for exposing chart commands.
  • Property dialog for editing chart configuration through a user interface.
  • Context menu support for chart operations.
  • Scale breaks for handling ranges where a continuous axis would hide important detail.
  • Zooming and scrolling for exploring dense or wide charts.
  • Legend improvements for clearer series identification.

The release-note excerpt describes these interface features and FastPoint as Enterprise Edition-only. Confirm the edition before assuming a particular 5.5 capability is present.

Enterprise and Professional editions

Edition boundaries are important when interpreting old documentation. The archived Dundas Chart for ASP.NET help says that Enterprise-only features are marked in the documentation and are unavailable in Professional Edition.

Question What the historical material establishes
Did Enterprise include OLAP Services? A historical Visual Studio Marketplace listing says Dundas Chart for ASP.NET Enterprise Edition included Dundas Chart for ASP.NET OLAP Services.
Were all chart features available in Professional Edition? No. The archived help states that Enterprise-only features were marked and unavailable in Professional Edition.
Is every 5.5 feature documented in the available excerpt? No. The indexed release-note passage is a list of highlights, not a complete feature inventory.

What the archived documentation covered

The help system was organized around the practical tasks needed to build ASP.NET charts:

  • Installation and configuration
  • Chart types
  • Chart data
  • Rendering
  • Formulas
  • Application programming interface (API) reference

When consulting archived pages, check the edition markings attached to each feature. A code sample or property described in the help may require Enterprise Edition.

How to evaluate a legacy 5.5 installation

If you are maintaining an application that already uses OLAP Services 5.5, treat the work as a compatibility and documentation exercise rather than a new-product purchase.

  1. Identify the exact package and edition. Record whether the application uses Professional or Enterprise components and whether OLAP Services is installed separately or through the Enterprise package.
  2. Inventory the features in use. Look for FastPoint charts, toolbars, property dialogs, context menus, scale breaks, zooming, scrolling, and customized legends.
  3. Collect the matching archived help. Use the documentation sections for installation, chart data, rendering, formulas, and the API, while checking each feature’s edition marker.
  4. Verify the deployed runtime independently. Check the application’s target .NET Framework, ASP.NET hosting model, operating system, database drivers, and any native or browser-side dependencies against the actual 5.5 binaries.
  5. Test before changing the platform. Exercise data loading, rendering, interactive controls, exports, authentication, and representative OLAP queries in a staging environment.
  6. Preserve a rollback path. Keep the original binaries, configuration, deployment package, and a tested backup until the replacement or platform migration has been proven.

What is not established today

The available sources do not establish whether version 5.5 is still sold, how it is licensed, whether the vendor still supports it, or whether it works with current .NET and Windows releases. Current Dundas documentation pages for newer products are not evidence of compatibility with this legacy chart component.

Do not infer support or compatibility from the existence of a current Dundas BI or Custom Analytics page. Those are distinct product lines with their own requirements.

Should you choose it for a new project?

There is not enough verified current information to recommend Dundas Chart for .NET OLAP Services 5.5 for a new deployment. Its historical feature set may explain an existing application’s design, but a new project would require independently verified licensing, vendor support, security posture, and runtime compatibility before adoption.

For an existing system, the sensible decision framework is narrower: confirm the edition, identify the 5.5 features actually required, verify that OLAP Services is included in the deployed package, locate usable archived documentation, and test the complete stack on the intended platform.

Is there a physical product to buy?

No relevant current physical product is established for this software. A generic programming book, accessory, or replacement tool would not substitute for the specific Dundas component or resolve its licensing and compatibility questions.
